Subject: Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn Walkathon

Don't forget to come out this Sunday October 14 at 1 p.m. for a Walkathon to stop Forest City Ratner from building his proposed stadium/luxury condo complex. A lot of us feel hopeless, or believe that the project is already approved, but in fact is actively and successfully being fought on several fronts--including federal court. Come on out for a grass-roots community event and help keep Brooklyn the great community we all love. The Walkathon starts at 6th Ave. and Dean, progresses up Flatbush to Grand Army Plaza, and ends on Vanderbilt at Soda Bar and Restaurant this Sunday October 14 at 1 p.m. You can register ahead of time at www.dddb.net or in person the day of. There will be children's activities and families are welcome.

We also have a Prospect Place team, and you can join us, or donate to the team- especially if you live on Prospect Place:

Prospect Place has been the leader for the last two years, but we've slipped into third place this year. But we're a strong finisher.... I hope.

Isn't the project already approved? I don't understand why people think they can stop this project? It's great to talk a walk through the neighborhoods, but a waste of effort if you believe you're walking will stop the project. This isn't like the Jets stadium deal where it WASN'T approved. This has been approved and is simply completing the last of the condemnation holdout, wishy washy lawsuits that take time through the court process.

Oh, it's so nice to find somebody who supports the project. I haven't seen one in so long! And I love someone calling DDDb "wishy washy" - that's a new one.

If you want our benevolent leaders to take care of everything, be my guest. But I intend to have some say over my neighborhood. The environmental review process was a joke.

And it was really interesting going to the eminent domain hearing yesterday, to see the lawyers duke it out. The state lawyer was essentially saying that their decisions should not be questioned, no matter what the effect or intent.

I remember back in 2004 when Ratner was saying that the first Nets games would be fall of 2006. He has been saying that this is a "done deal" for almost four years. The only way he has had any sort of accountability is because of the residents of Prospect Heights and our neighbors.

No matter what gets built, there is going to be decades of construction. The Empire State Development Corporation said that it would hire an ombudsman to deal with neighborhood concerns 155 days ago. The only way there is going to be any protection for us is if we do it.

See? It was great to have someone who supports our benevolent leaders. If you haven't noticed, I believe that the only way for a democratic country to work is if the citizens speak up.

The only way we can do this is with the money to support the legal battles. Please contribute what you can to the walkathon!
