This is the same problem we had in Bartell Sq.[see Park SLOPE Forum pg.5]..A resolution was brought about by forcing the 78th Pct. and Prospect Park Alliance to take action before pedestrians became injured.
As far as parents go, some of the 14yr olds would show up at 2pm
and hang out to 10pm and sit with some of the nickle and dime dealers.

these kids have been on saint marks a lot in recent months. i don't know if they are new to the neighborhood or just figured it was a good street to skateboard on. they're driving me nuts.

NYC Local Law 1996/04 clearly states it's against the law to skate on sidewalks or traffic or where there are pedestrians. The original response from the 78th Pct. was they have to have somewhere to skate, totally ignoring videos presented to them showing their unlawfull and dangerous activity, even then they were slow to respond.
When shown videos of officers standing around, talking on their cell phones, ignoring the violations and only after being advised copies would be sent to both Borough Commander Fox and a publication who was interested in doing an article called ''COPS GONE MILD'' was any action taken.
Summons were issued and the boarders took the hint and left.
Keep on the Cops and it will go away.
GOOD LUCK -
i think they most of them live close by cause i seen some of them go in and out in some buildings near the area.
they also seem to know the street people in the area for such a young ages.
lets hope these kids don't start running a gang soon about to be the age when start. -

[Let your concerns be known to your local Police Pct. before it becomes a problem, as James Dean was quoted "The life you save may be your own"]

That isn't exactly true. It states that "reckless operation" is not allowed. What is reckless operation defined as?(2) The term "reckless operation" shall mean operating roller skates, in-line skates or a skateboard on a public street, highway or sidewalk in such a manner as to endanger the safety or property of another.
From the description, I would say that reckless operation is what is being described in this instance. -

I was pretty sure you would have understood boarding on streets ,sidewalks and highways is reckless . Whats your point? -

My point is that skateboarding on sidewalks or streets is in fact NOT against the law, contrary to what you stated. -
Subject: skateboarding
Living in Windsor Terrace by PPW we have an active community and
everytime i've seen boarders on the sidewalk they were flying through women, children and seniors or weaving in and out of traffic.
That is reckless, I have yet to see any boarders pick up their board when on a busy street or crossing streets where traffic is active.
May I ask if you are a boarder, if you are, I would not recommend boarding in this area as the Police have been issuing summons for skating on the sidewalk and in the street.
I guess their interprertation is different then yours -

call me old fashioned, but i am completely charmed by the recent rise in the numbers of skating kids. its a better activity than a lot of other things.
as long as nothing gets thrown at anyone, I personally don't see a problem with it.
can we not harsh on the kids unnecesarilyy by involving the law? they are probably bored out of their skulls as it is... -

The subject is not about banning skateboarding ,it's about where they do it
The law should get involved when it's being ignored ! -

Are you serious? Some of you people really want some police action taken about kids on skateboards? When I was that age, I did the same thing with my friends, skating on and off NYC sidewalks for hours and hours. It's fine. It's better than them hanging out at basketball courts where drug dealers and sickos can get at them. Jeez. Gimme a break. -
to be fair, the OP only asks after parents, not police. in fact, although it is possible to guess/imagine that he's annoyed, armchair only writes about the kids' safety.
so i think that makes only "one of you people" -- hamilton -- who's calling for police involvement. -
"one of you people"
Doh! I knew someone was going to get me on that. -

''If one of my people'' are tired of rowdy boarders slamming into women with carriages, bouncing off bus's and trucks who are waiting for the light to change ,they have every right to contact the police to restore order

It's most likely "one your people"are apathic and only react after the shit hits the fan. -
slamming into women with carriages, bouncing off bus's and trucks who are waiting for the light to change
Yep, it's definitely time to call in the National Guard. -

Perhaps you should write our congressman about this issue. Clearly, we are not satisfying your standards of proactivity. Make sure to use the word "apathic" in you letter. -

Ok, here's how to deal with skaters who are making too much noise on your block: TELL THEM TO LEAVE.
Skaters deal with that all the time. They would rather leave than have you eventually call the cops. Yell at them from your window if you are scared of them. It's not very complicated. Over the years I've had hot water, giant cans of tunafish, and shoes thrown at me from windows. Skaters spend half their time getting kicked out of spots and looking for new ones. Again, it's really not very complicated. And for the record Mr. Hamilton, the sound of skaters outside of my window is like sweet, sweet music to my ears. Smile! -

I realize armchairs is concerned about the youngsters in his neighborhood and rightfully so. The same activity started small in my neighborhood then balloned into 20 to 25yr old boarders slamming in the street till 3 or 4 in the morning creating havoc for people who work for a living. The older group used drugs and would chase and threaten bikers or runners who complained about almost being run down by them.
so i think that makes only "one of you people" -- hamilton -- who's calling for police involvement.
I'm not telling anyone to do anything if they are comfortable with their enviorment. -

For one I'm not scared of them, in fact I was talking two friends and one of these morons skated by and slammed down right behind me , I was so scared I kicked his ass of the board and advised him it wouldn't be in his best intrest to do it again, needless to say the punk skated away.
Now lets discuss your tainted recommendation [yell at them and they will go away] If that works, why over the years were people dousing you with water, throwing tuna cans and shoes at you, when all they had to do was yell at you?
I guess you were the poster boy for ignorance is bliss. -

They didn't try yelling. They should have, because it would have saved them the trouble of throwing something. You would have to ask them why they didn't choose to yell. Of course, that was a long, long, time ago. -

Homeboy, you asked me why they threw things if they could have just yelled. I answered your question. You did not consider what I wrote because you were so eager to ask another self-serving, question-begging, and generally dumb question. I've humored you enough already. Peace.

Just admit you were wrong, the truth will set you free.
Your right it's time to humor yourself. Peace be with you homeboy -
They are often out during the day during the week. Shouldn't they be in school?!

Many schools have split hours, to make them go, try as recommended, open your window and yell LEAVE, LEAVE, turn around once and click your heels three times and- poof-they disappear
Howdy, Stranger!
