Tom Rooney passes away — Brooklynian

Tom Rooney passes away

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
Our neighbor from Carlton Avenue Tom Rooney died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon. The details of how are not yet known, but he was active around the neighborhood until hours before he passed away. He died at home, and it was probably very quick.

His body is at Duffy's funeral home, but the main source of information should be his church:
St Augustine's Catholic Church
www.staugustineparkslope.org
116 6th Ave
Brooklyn, NY 11217
(718) 783-3132

I am really saddened to hear this news. I would run into Tom frequently, and it's strange to think that he won't be around any more.

  • Who was this fellow? Where on Carlton did he live?
  • I was hoping the website had a Recently Dead link on it with a list of the upcoming funerals and a picture/obit of the deceased. That'd be cool.

Where did this dude live? What he look like?
  • He was 61, I think, and lived in a pair of houses on the west side of Carlton between Bergen and St. Marks. He had a very bad toupee, I have to admit.
  • Not the black guy with the really bad curly toupee?
  • Innocent X, are you fifteen? A little sensitivity?
  • About the website? I'm being serious. It's the information age so would make sense --- if a church has a website --- to post funeral services.

    Is that the guy though?
  • May I ask, did he have a heavy brogue? Man you described (bad toupee, sigh, sorry) reminds of such a man I met a few times. Jolly fellow, loved to talk to everyone and was really very kind.

    That certainly sounds like him.

I just called the church, and the wake/viewing will be at Duffy's at 255 9th Street (between 4th & 5th) Thursday and Friday, 2-5 and 7-9 pm. There will be a Mass for him on Saturday 9:45 at St. Augustine's.
  • So who's that black dude with the really bad toupee who hangs around the barber shop/bodega near the Q/B subway entrance on Park and Carlton?
