Renting / Subletting in Prospect Heights — Brooklynian

Renting / Subletting in Prospect Heights

Can anyone recommend a good broker for rentals in Prospect Heights, or better yet, any tips / leads on renting from owners in the neighborhood? We were this close to moving to a coop sublet we liked on St. John's between Underhill and Washington, but once we accepted the broker told us the price had been raised from what he initially told us (from $1900, to $2000, then to $2200, then to $2100). Plus the guy insisted that a 15% fee was "standard" in Brooklyn (just not true) and wanted his fee on the new, higher rent. It's hard to say what was going on with the rent situation, and it might not have been his fault, but we're feeling a little frustrated. :(

So, onward and upward. Anyone have any good advice or, even better, know anyone who wants some damned fine tenants with great credit for their reasonably-priced 1-2BR?

  • avoid brokers. try craig's list:

and bear in mind warnings (on previous posts) about ads that stretch the limits of prospect heights.

    good luck.
  • Thanks! We have been diligent about Craig's List so far, and are hoping it leads somewhere eventually :-)

i just moved here and love the neighborhood but had a miserable broker experience. might want to check previous threads about good/bad brokers if Craig's list doesn't work out. i tried to avoid brokers but ended up giving in.

    best of luck
