Live Music in the Neighborhood — Brooklynian

Live Music in the Neighborhood

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
Does anyone know of a good venue for live music in the neighborhood (Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Fort Greene) that they could recommend? A cozy place to enjoy a few drinks with live jazz would be ideal. But we would be open to checking out music of all sorts.

Also, on a related note, if you could recommend any cafes or bars with open mike nights, that would be good to know too.

Thanks!

  • Issue Project Room on 3rd st and 3rd ave has all kinds of weird stuff comes through such as Nels Cline and Yellow Swan. Some is jazzy and some is noise if your into that.

Barbes somewhere on 7th ave has jazz as does the Tea lounge on union.

Southpaw and Union hall both have rock and hip hop stuff.

As far as I know Prospect Heights has nothing which sucks concidering the influx of younger people. Im young myself and am kinda pissed the LES and Williamburg/Greenpoint/Bushwich gets all the cool stuff. Someone needs to open up a small venue/bar which has cheap drinks and shows like cackshop in the les. If they can stay open then something similar in prospect heights, with lower rent but lower turn out, should be able to work. I would do it but im broke, someone should call Todd P.

edit: Fredys back room and bar. its on dean but will get mowed down by AY.
  • In Fort Greene , Night of the Cookers on Fulton St tween South Elliot and South Portland has jazz. In Clinton Hill,Dakar on Grand Ave and Clifton Place also.Myrtle and Washington at Five Spot. The Lox on Fulton St off Grand Ave has jazz.
  • The new Mitchell's on Flatbush has jazz on Friday and Saturday nights. Sundays they have a Middle Eastern band with belly dancers.
  • fyi - Barbes is not on 7th Ave. It is on 9th Street near 6th Ave (going towards 7th Ave, but almost at the corner of 6th)
