Question about tipping delivery guys.... — Brooklynian

Question about tipping delivery guys....

Do you tip the delivery guy if the restaurant already adds a charge for delivery? We ordered from Chiles and Chocolates the other day and there was a delivery charge. I still tipped the guy but had serious thought s about whether I needed to. If the restaurant is charging for delivery...isn't the delivery guy getting a cut of that? By the time you pay a DC and a tip the food is all of a sudden a whole lot more expensive than you thought it was going to be.

Anyway, what do people do?

There was a delivery charge for C&C?? I don't see one on the menu we have from there but I feel like they have either a $15 or $20 minimum to deliver without a charge. I've never had a delivery charge with them (or Lemongrass or Joe's Pizza) but maybe I'm always over the limit. With C&C it's easy to bump up the price if you're close--just add an horchata or spicy hot chocolate :)

If a place has a minimum to avoid a charge, I would probably tip even if paying the fee--it's not the delivery guy's problem that you didn't want to order much and it's cold out now. You can always go pick it up, too. It may taste even better after a few minutes outside in this winter weather.
  • Who has a delivery charge anymore? Unless it's the Four Seasons of course.
With all the competition in the hood, that can only hurt them.
    Good question Dr.F!
