not sure if Kombit on Flatbush is still open but it has received good reviews. I haven't eaten there, however.

I don't know if it's still open either, but I did eat there several years ago. The food was great and the service more than gracious, if exceedingly slow. i recall waiting for 40 minutes for food, but the bartender kept sending over more wine, so we couldn't really complain. I was happy with what I ate.
My best guess, though, if you're looking for good Haitian restaurants would be to head over toward Lefferts Gardens. -
Kombit is delicious! I was there a few weeks ago. The food is really good, the portions are generous and it pretty reasonably priced. They even have very good Veggie options if you don' eat meat...

i've only been a few times, but it's always been great. service is particularly sweet -- once, when my stove wasn't working, i ate there and had a tiny bit of food leftover. (we had told them about the stove.) when i got home, i saw that my partly leftovers had been packed with another full serving of beans and rice.
also have heard great jazz there -- anyone know if that's a regular feature? i think is was a friday night. -
Subject: Haitian restaurants in Crown Heights
Kombit is good, a bit fancier than anywhere else, and they have a liquor license (which is rare). The soupe joumen (pumpkin soup) is very tasty (Sundays only).
In Crown Heights, neighborhood favorite Chez Marcel on Troy Ave between Union and Prez is comparable to the restaurants in Flatbush. The service is welcoming; there are a half dozen solid square tables; and the food is good and generous. Nice renditions of all the classic dishes. Lunch and early dinner (the kitchen closes relatively early; everything is made there by one woman).
Newly opened on the same block is ZigZag, in the former bodega on the corner of Troy and Union. Only tried it once so far, but it shows promise. -
There is Blue Bayou - Hatin cuisine with a focus on seafood. They just redid their interior and have sit down service. Worth a try if you are in the area.
