I had two sessions with a personal trainer at Crunch early this year, and I was not at all impressed. The lead trainer I met with to set up the sessions seemed ok, but nothing special, but then he passed me off when I arrived for my first session to another guy much younger who was new there. He had the requisite muscles, but did not seem passionate about his work. He didn't say much, did not answer my questions thoroughly, did not motivate me or establish a good rapport. I have worked with other trainers before (in another state), and this experience was disappointing.
My advice: if you go, try to get a meeting with the person who will actually be your trainer, and see if you feel good about them before handing over your money. Sorry I can't remember any of the names, and I am no longer a member. -
I would highly suggest NOT using the personal trainers at Crunch. At least the one on Flatbush.
A year ago, a bunch of friends and I all joined around the same time and took them up on the free session of personal training. All but one of us had horrible experiences with different trainers.
The guy I had was late, they actually called to wake him up and he showed up hungover, and maybe even still drunk and his breath wreaked of booze.
In general, I feel like their methodology for trying to convince you that you need personal training sessions is horribly misguided. Rather than trying to demonstrate to you how one-on-one sessions would be helpful and productive, they spend the first hour trying to convince you that you are fat, out of shape, and unhealthy. Personal training should be a positive experience, not something so negative.
My girlfriend and her sister actually got the same trainer a few days apart, and the trainer actually had the nerve to say, "You're sister is skinnier than you." Thats just despicable.
I love the gym, but hate the trainers. -
reading these other experiences sounds horrifying. my experiences were not in any way hostile (or drunk). i'd second the advice of interviewing with a trainer beforehand.

I met with a great trainer, but the rate for 20 sessions is around 1400. Is that average? What is the going rate for personal training in PH?

F*$kin hell!!! Isn't the visualization of how much cash you save by NOT hiring a trainer more than enough motivation to do one more rep, now one more, now three more, two, one more, one more, last one... -
Yeah, but one rep the wrong way.....Ugh. I don't know!!! It's worth it if I get my act together.

I was trained by Vaughn at the Flatbush Ave Crunch for about 2 months earlier this year and can recommend him highly. Even though I can no longer afford to keep up with the personal training, I see him frequently aroudn the gym and he's made himself available for questions about equipment and new exercises. Expensive, but worth it if you can swing the $$.

Yes. I think it's worth it if I get results. Does anyone want to be workout buddies? Maybe that will help with the motivation. Then again 1400 is quite the incentive, along with the results.

I suggest trying Gabby. She worked me, (I am woman), and two men I know. All three of of us have completely different needs and limitations and she was great with all of us.

I do not know what the Crunch trainers make, but I charge $55/session, $250/five-pack, $500/10-pack, $1000/20-pack for private in-home, or outdoor sessions. My single session rate is probably comparable to what the master trainers make at the club after the gym takes its cut. The trainers could make more than that, though.

I'm working with Claire at Crunch. I waited to choose a trainer until I observed one working with another client who seemed like someone I'd want to work with. I am glad I wasn't randomly assigned someone. It is f*&#&in expensive so I'm only doing five sessions. I think their rates just went up, too.

I may get a private trainer on craigslist. I have checked out Crunch, and it is expensive and I don't think they care about helping me get fit.

I have to agree that I don't like the trainers at Crunch on Flatbush. I had a ridiculous conversation with a trainer that I had scheduled my first session with when she had to cancel and have not had any desire to meet with a trainer since. They seem to only be there for their own personal benefit. Equipment is constantly being abused and nobody seems to care. Many of them take up more than the amount of space necessary on the mats when space is limited and even they don't set a good example by putting equipment away when they are done with it. I am still a member at this gym because it is the most convenient, but I feel like these trainers are a waste of money.
