If they didn't steal anything or try to steal anything it would seem rather strange that this group of guys randomly picked you to beat on for no reason.
This does happen sometimes. About five years ago a friend of mine was beaten for no apparent reason. She thought it might be racially motivated. She's white BTW.

This incident happened in Washington Heights. She thought she recognized the group of men from the neighborhood.
One of my straight white male friends, who looks gay, was beat up by a goup of strangers. There are bad people who get off from hurting others.
  • There are many scenarios why people don't always report crime. Sometimes passerbys call the Police and the Victim does not care to report the incident. Other times people call when they are upset, and later cool off after speaking to the Cops. Alien status sometimes comes into play, such as illegals getting Robbed making food deliveries. Sometimes people even get pissed off at the crazy questions Police ask, and become highly uncooperative. So it's not always as simple as it appears. I would say Mr.Dawg probably falls under the category of macho pissed off guy, that can't believe he got Robbed and probably coupled with his dislike for Police officers, I mean "PIGS" he probably wasn't happy with the services rendered.

Yep, blame the victim. Thanks for the explanation.
  • Well, I don't know that I'd go far as to say "blame the victim," as I think the reasons that KWAC describes probably do really happen sometimes. But he neglects to mention what many people have said is their experience: That victims are sometimes actively discouraged by the police from filing reports, either because the officers think it's not worth their time and effort or because their higher-ups want to keep the official stats down.

I think it’s the stats thing since more and more people are moving into the area and new business are opening

I’ve been going a bit mad since I haven't really left the house since my eye dr appointment on Tuesday. So I’ve been reading up on the crown heights riots, we still have the same racial problems.

I'm Nicaraguan I’ve be harassed a few time I had kids call me white boy this white boy that. It’s not until I say something to them in Spanish that they realize I’m not American and not white.
  • Hey there. I'm a longtime lurker and have been meaning to register here for a while...I hate for this to be my first post but I thought I'd mention that someone in my building was mugged today, around 5pm, 3 teenage boys, yadda yadda yadda. The guy was visiting my neighbor--guess he won't be back anytime soon...ha. He was pretty badly beaten as well as robbed of $$, laptop, etc. The incident was reported...I've been reading these posts for a while and have been a little freaked about all the incidents that seem to be cropping up, guess I'm a little more freaked out now that its happened in my building in broad daylight.
  • On a side note, Lebanese and Blonde? Is that a good combo? If so I'd like to place an order! :P

I'm guessing you need to think shakira, but blonde.

I think Shakira WAS blonde at one point, no?

And yes, absolutely--I'm sure you've all spotted me at one point or another belly dancing my way down Washington Avenue

yeah, I think she was. several times. it seemed to work well with the latin american audience pre-US radar sightings. she went back to dark hair for ojos asi, but then I think went blonde again sometime in the early aughts. hrm. I wonder what color her hair is now ...
  • Back on topic -- lebaneseblonde, roughly what part of the neighborhood was this in?

indeed. (sorry for my part in derailment)

    were the robbers caught?
  • I keep hearing about people being mugged in this area by three teenage boys. Are they the same 3 boys on a crime spree or are there multiple trios of thugs preying on the neighborhood? It sounds like they have no fear and will attack in broad daylight. Pretty unsettling, and I have been here for 19 years...
  • multiple groups of kids
  • Sorry I get easily derailed........theres been a bunch of Robberies in the West end of the 77(Flatbush-Washington region) with 3 younger guys. I'm hoping that the arrest of the SAJE Robbers will close out alot of complaints from the Franklin ave-Classon ave Robbery spree.
  • I don't know, King. It sounded like they took (and didn't take)a few robberies on the west side yesterday.

Park Place bet Classon and Wash/Grand.

The kids were not caught. They were chased by my neighbor...then a report was made. Not sure what's happened since then, but I was uber cautious walking into my building last night
