Is there anyone else out there in Brooklynianland closing on the St Marks Lofts? Please PM me, it'd be nice to hear from future neighbors.

  • I would have, sorry to say but my friends dropped out of their contract after horrible and probably illegal and defenitly unethical treatment from the disgusting brokers at Corcoran, I cannot believe the people that work at Corcoran, hard to believe they even graduated highschool. Any way after cobstan complaints about the shoddiness of the work and the non-communication from the developer, they took their money and actually bought at the Hello building on Pacific, which was more expensive but they absolutely fell in love! so they will be your neighbors but not in the same building.

  • Hi there, my husband and I are in contract for the St. Marks building (between Washington & Grand), and while the process has been very s-l-o-w, we still feel really good about the place. I'm happy to see that another friendly neighbor such as yourself is moving in and looking to say hi to the others.

    We had a tentative closing date for Dec. 27 (2007), but it's been postponed while they wait to receive the Certificate of Occupancy letter. What's the status with you - do you know when you will close or move in? It's looking like it could be mid/late January for us if the certificate comes soon. If you have any info on how close to finished it is, I would be interested to know. We haven't seen the place since August. Take care.
  • I'm one of your new neighbors from the neighborhood, closing at one of the new condos on Washington Avenue...moving in about 2 weeks. Your buidling looks great, so I hope it all goes well for you. one word of caution with closings and the certificate of occupancy. I waited 6 months for the c of o to finally go through. This is not an uncommon practice with new construction and brokers will often tell you, "it'll be next month" each month that it's delayed. If you haven't done so already, check the city's website and you can see evey detail, fine, application, status of the C of O, etc. and it's usually only a day or two behind.

    Good luck and maybe we'll all run into each other at one of the new restaraunts.

    It's great to know that there's so many friendly people to meet in the neighborhood. You'll know it's me if you see a girl walking a little cream french bulldog and a yellow lab :D
  • Great to see some people who are excited to move there, like myself. We'll have Japanese (Gen), Thai (Odum) and yoga (Shambala) literally next door. And Chavella's (Mexican) on Classon.

    I guess I'm taking the DoB's word for it, in terms of closing :-)
  • For those of you buying into the new construction buildings: I'm curious, what's the attraction / what are the benefits of brand new to outweigh all the minuses I can think of? We felt much more secure buying into a long-established condo building in the neighborhood.
  • guys remember to replace the old board quickly as possible. can't trust developers :P.
  • doctorj, depending on when you get in on the deal, it comes at a discount compared to current market values. because you're taking on risk from the developer by going into contract early, you earn a discount on the deal.

    some people paid $380-400 psf at the washington.

    tell me where you can get a condo at those prices today. sure there are minor issues, but what condo doesn't have them, new or established??

    - spacious, sensible layout that is created for living in the 21st century, not the 19th century
    -big windows, light
    -outside space
    -central air
    -WD hookup
    -the knowledge that you're the first person to live there: i.e. no funny smells, chipped paint, creaky floors, rodents, roaches
  • That's not to mention the sweet tax abatement for years to come :D
  • This is one of the few new buildings that don't make me cringe when I walk by. It fits in with the surrounding buildings quite well but is still different.
