Using the Quote Feature

Hi -- I can't figure out how to use the quote feature (you know, when you want to respond to someone's comment and it shows up in a box). I am not particularly tech-savvy -- I did review the posts in this section but didn't find it.

Thank you.

  • There are two ways to do it.

The easy way is to find the post you want to quote and click on the "quote" button that's at the top right corner of each post. This will automatically begin your post with the quote. If you want to edit the quote (to delete irrelevant parts), you can do that, but leave the tags (the code before and after the body of the text) alone.

Now for the leet way. You can use either of the following formats to post a quote without using the button.
    Text goes here
This is for a basic quote. Obviously, replace "Text goes here" with whatever text you want to quote. The text will appear in a box labeled "quote."
"source name" wrote: Text goes here
This is for an attributed quote. The text will appear in a box labeled "source name wrote." Obviously, replace "Text goes here" with whatever text you want to quote, and "source name" with whoever you want to attribute the quote to.

The only reason that the quotes aren't appearing in my post here is that I've disabled BBCode in this post.
  • also, once you are replying, you will notice a quote button above the text field, next to the underline button.

hit it once, insert the text you want to quote, and hit it again to close the quote.

this will format the quote in the "basic" style carny describes above.
