Cat Butt
Okay, so I have two new kittens (we've had them for just about six weeks) and one of them has a slight problem. He smells like...well, to be honest, cat butt.
At first I thought that he just wasn't cleaning himself well after using the litter pan, but then I realized its something else. I'll pick him up and he has no smell at all, put him down and pick him up five minutes later and he REEKS. Can he have some really bad cat gas? It seems to come and go and there is no rhyme or reason to it. I've noticed it after he uses the litter pan, but also when he awakes from a nap or after roughhousing with his brother (who, by the way, never smells like butt). I've had cats before, but this is the first time I've come across this.
I'd hate for him to go through life being called "Cat Butt" but it looks like that is what's going to happen unless I can figure out what the heck is going on with him.
Any ideas?

he totally could be farting. My former girl cat used to fart like crazy until about 16 months old. Vet said her food was too rich for her. Are you feeding her kitten food?

Yep, he gets a mix of wet and dry Nutrino Nature's Choice for Kittens. I could try changing it, but he's such a pig he usually eats his food and snacks on his brother's as well.

ok, $1 says he's farting. Now you can try blaming YOUR farts on the cat, like my father tried to (classy, no?)

Good to know I'm not alone! Mumps and Grumps fart too, usually when I pick them up or they jump on me. It's smelly enough to make me check their butts to see if there are any stragglers. Fortunately for me, it's not often. My 4 cats are girls so I just figured it was the kittens being stinky boys.

I had a girl cat that was a prodigious farter. I empathize, homeowner, because NOTHING smells worse than a kitty fart. It makes human farts smell like roses in comparison. It didn't matter what she was fed, she was one gassy girl with all the silent and deadlies.
And to make matters worse, her favorite food was BEANS!!!
Needless to say, I didn't let her have any, but sometimes she managed to steal some anyway. Nothing like eating a bowl of bean soup while reading and then looking down to find your cat lapping away at it!
Howdy, Stranger!
