Just wanted to know how the area has been lately. And what exactly are the boundaries of Prospect Heights?

Atlantic, Washington, Eastern Parkway and Flatbush.

Prospect between Grand and Classon is Crown Heights, although I'm sure a real estate agent will tell you differently.

are you kidding? You obviously don't live on Prospect btw. Grand and Classen. I do. Literally steps away from Danny Market (corner of Grand/Prospect). It's a quiet, quiet street. You may have a few teens making noise and carrying on during the summer months, but those incidents are VERY limited. I am amazed how country quiet it is, actually.

We've lived on this block close to 2 years, and it is mostly quiet, safe and pleasant. Probably one of the prettiest blocks in the immediate surroundings.

There are still 2 or 3 larger apt buildings closer to Classon, that have congregations of men just hanging out in front of them morning, noon, and night, but they migrate to the hallway in the colder months.

Overall it's a pleasant block, with nice neighbors.

Maybe Cool the Kid is thinking about St. Marks between Grand and Classon? Things vary so much block by block in that area; there's a lot of sketchiness on St. Marks, largely because of the residents of the two buildings on the southeast corner at Grand. That's where I had a bunch of kids dump a bucket of water on me one day last summer half an hour before the same crowd assaulted one of my neighbors, and I've heard of several more muggings, incidents of harassment, and assaults on that block.

Indeed. However I rarely go east of my bldg, except to that little Mexican joint—Chevella's (?)—on Classen Btw. Prospect and Park.

I am moving there in a month, so I hope it is a good spot! From going there a few times, I tend to agree that it is definitely one of the nicer looking blocks in the area. And more places are being converted as time goes on. That Mexican spot looks great. Can't wait to git it up.

I live on Underhill and I walked to a party on that block a few weeks ago. It was after dark and I was by myself but I couldn't have felt safer. I know a lot of young, single women who live there and love it.

I'm just giving the OP a realistic assessment...

I moved from St. Marks b/w Classon/Franklin to Prospect between the same blocks. My new block is 100000000000x better than my old one and it was right around the corner.

But I have to live in the neighborhood, which, while still being awesome in general, is a little wild. Murders, stabbings, jumpings, I have seen it all in my first year in PH- on my block! But aside from my two friends who almost got mugged I don't know anybody who's been hurt. It seems like playing it smart a little bit (traveling in packs, being aware of your surroundings, staying off certain blocks) pays off big time.

Personally I would buy a place around here to live in, if I could. I like the neighborhood that much. But again I'm not gonna outright lie and call it "safe". But beyond that I love it here and don't think that aspect of this nabe is that big of a deal.

Who doesn't love the guy that yells out "Good Morning Brooklyn" everyday?! Love that. I'm right near Classon, on Prospect Place and it the 2 years it has already changed. I get hellos from the guys hanging outside now, instead of "want to have my baby snowflake?"

But rumor is that Franklin will be the next big thing, ending up like Park Slope... something about 2 banks being put in and new restaurants. I was thinking it would like like another 1-2 years for that to happen, but I was told otherwise by some friends.

By the way, someone wrote that they don't go east of their place except for Chevella's... how about the shuttle train? I keep meaning to walk down to the Q instead of taking the shuttle, but I'm too damn lazy. The shuttle rocks!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. We moved here a few months ago from San Diego and are still getting used to the change. Just wanted to find out more about the area and what's been going on lately.

That was me. Frankly I don't even know where the shuttle train goes—with the 2,3 and the B,Q trains right in the nabe, I am all set. Believe me when I say that I'd love to keep my hard-earned cash in the 'hood, and I'd like to spend it on another street besides Vanderbilt.

I'm closer to Classon, so the shuttle is only 1 block for me. The shuttle runs between the C (Franklin), Park Place (entrance on Prospect too), the 2,3,4,5 (Franklin/Eastern Pkwy), and the Q (Prospect Park I think is the name of the stop).

I live on that block, a few doors up from Danny's. We've been here a year and really like it. Neighbors are pretty friendly, at least the ones we know. There was some hangin' out noise in the summer, but hey, it beats living on a deserted street.
