Brooklyn Rescue's Last Act of Kindness
Brooklyn Rescue Umbrella's Last Cats are Ready for the Holidays
Brooklyn, New York, November 16, 2014
Brooklyn Rescue Umbrella (BRU) had the finest intentions and the least resources for a rescue. Our Mission Statement was directed at the Individual who needed help and had no one to reach out to. Our final goal was to create a Sanctuary for feral cats. The writing is on the wall -- Feral Cat Colonies are suddenly being evicted from sites where they have lived peacefully for many years.
Despite our meager resources this tiny organization rescued and placed over 200 cats and kittens for adoption between 2011 and 2014. We spearheaded a Trap Neuter Return (TNR) project on the Coney Island Boardwalk resulting in 70 TNR'd cats and the placement of many kittens into homes in only 2 months.
BRU stepped in when no one would help many cats and kittens in need of a Random Act of Kindness. One recent example is Surprise: Found with a broken leg, badly dehydrated and with a respiratory illness, the people who found her were going from one vet to another hoping to get help. They had no money. BRU stepped in and Surprise will be ready for adoption once the leg is amputated. Many times people would be amazed at how we helped saying, "who does things like that anymore?"
But now, BRU is in the middle of our final rescue: An abandoned kitten with a cleft palate. We have no funds. We have no income. We only have a lot of unfortunate cats and kittens. We have no shelter and foster homes as well as volunteers are few. BRU must shut down. Paws in Paradise is hosting an Adoption Event for BRU on November 22 so that we can do one major push to find homes for the cats we still have in our care.
These cats are Ambassadors as they come to greet everyone who visits. They are Comfortable Companions who must be near you at all times. They are Snugglers and Lap Cats. Who could ask for anything more?
Our final Act of Kindness before retiring BRU is to place these cats in good homes. They are all tested; vaccinated for distemper and rabies and spayed/neutered. They are all in good health and are friendly. Oliver is a hugger; Volpino is a Lapcat and a Fox in every sense of the word; Lulu is a Snuggler and the others waiting for Permanent homes are just as wonderful and loving. They are all Family Types. Adopt one of these wonderful creatures so that you can have the best Holiday with the best kind of Company -- a Companion Pet.
