Lame! I saw a few cool small shows here, including baby gramps. No room for that amidst the 2nd wave I see

If your new business can't survive on Smith St, 7th Avenue or 5th Avenue....it can't survive on Franklin between Atlantic and EP.
-
I asked them about it on facebook and this is all they said:
- Sadly, we closed forever December 24.
- My heart broke a lot. It feels like someone replaced it with hot coals. But in the big picture this is so much better. And that's what is important.
-
Sad times! We will miss you craig and ari!

As detailed toward the end of this thread, readers perceived this business as being in a very tough market when it first opened a year ago:

Hopefully they did not lose a lot of money in the pursuit of their dream.

This was never going to succeed. Maybe if there rent was 1200 and not 4 or 5 times that.
-
I know the landlord.
As a result of receiving adequate notice, a temporary tenant has been secured, while a long term tenant is being sought.
I suspect the LL will hold out for a tenant that is willing to sign a 5+ year lease, and has a proven business model.
I didn't ask what the asking rent is, but comparable spaces are going for $5K for "non-intensive uses". (i.e no bars or restaurants) -
I am told we will learn the new tenant in a few weeks.
-
I predict a verizon store.
-
It's Installation, the place currently in the smaller spot a few doors down.
-
That is a popup that will be there only for a short period.

A mexican restaurant has begun the process of applying for a liquor lic for this space.
You read correctly.
Another mexican restaurant!
If all goes as per plans, an entity called "Domo Taco" would serve us tacos and beer.
Please be advised that the SLA & Sidewalk Café Review Committee will meet on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 6:00 PM at CNR-The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, which is located at 727 Classon Avenue, Brooklyn, NY (between Park and Prospect Places).
But fear not, a nearby mexican place is in the process of closing: http://www.brooklynian.com/discussion/39096/vicente039s-mexican-hookah-676-franklin-next-to-indian-restaurant-is-going-going-#Item_50

WTF, another Mexican restaurant! Really!!
At what point do we reach market saturation? Enough of this! -
They are opening and closing at a rapid rate:

The good news is that Domo Taco will likely be better than Vicente's.
It would have to do a lot wrong to be worse, or as bad.

My experiences with Cool Pony always made it seem like they were nice, loopy people who didn't really have much of a business mind. When they first opened, I was supposed to play a show there for a concert series including Crown Heights musicians, but they didn't pay their music license so the entire event was moved elsewhere.I went in several times to sell records, and every time they told me to come back another day because the guy who buys records wasn't there. I finally got ahold of him on the phone, told him I was selling a Sgt. Pepper copy with the inserts and stuff in good condition, and he said he usually buys records for one dollar... so he didn't really seem interested in it. I get having a bargain bin of crazy weird records, but why wouldn't you want records that many people would want? I mean, you could at least put it in the shop window?I really wanted that place to work, but it felt like effort sometimes to like the place.

Although they had decidely different businesses, Cool Pony and Vicente's struck me as being equally astute.
Moving on, Domo Taco is the name of a successful food truck that offers Asian - Mexican fusion.

Domo Taco seeks to use the large backyard as part of their business. The two owners appeared tonight.
Asian - Mexican fusion food.
They originally sought 2 AM Sun - Thur, and 3 AM Fri and Sat.
They now seek 12 on work nights and 1 AM on weekend nights.
They lacked the material required to seek backyard use at this time, so they will seek it later.
The committee supported same. -
Today, I saw the guys who will operate Domo Taco in the space. It appears they now have possession of the the storefront.
They will need to have a kitchen built and inspected, so this may be something that opens in the Fall of 2015.
-
Initial kitchen inspection has been requested:

I am also pleased to spread the rumor that this storefront will include ice cream. Yes, those ice cream freezers from when it was Candy Rush are still around and will be put back into service....
-
Grand Opening is today. Beer and wine lic went into effect 7/23/2015.
