Fatal shooting Franklin and Union. Early Sunday morning, June 26, 2016
"A 30-year-old man was killed in Brooklyn after he was shot twice following an argument with his wife early Sunday, police said.
Dion James was arguing with his wife and another man on Franklin Ave. and Union St. in Crown Heights at 3:57 a.m., police said. The suspect then blasted James twice in the back.
James was rushed to Kings County Hospital, but he could not be saved. His wife is being questioned but has not been charged, a police source said.
The shooter has not been caught, police said. Cops were checking surveillance footage at a bar on Franklin Ave."

Rachel counts recent shootings on the block:
"The block where James was killed has seen multiple shootings in recent months. Last month at Franklin Avenue and Eastern Parkway — less than a block from Sunday’s shooting — police said a man fired two rounds on the corner around 3:40 p.m. on a Tuesday, then fled on foot. No one was injured.
In April, two men were hospitalized in a shooting in front of 1004 Union St., located just west of Franklin Avenue. One of the victims, a 33-year-old, was treated for a gunshot wound to the foot; a 24-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the lower abdomen and legs.
Around the corner from that shooting, two teenagers were shot in the legs in an after-school gunfight on Franklin Avenue and President Street on March 10."
....readers know that the area has been the scene of lots more violence over the past few years.
-
maybe its time for NYPD's SKYWATCH to come to Franklin and Union.
-
I often see 71st pct police officers walking the area, and the area has a transit pct.
....I'm not sure more police are the answer.
Yea, maybe Skywatch will help.
-
This shooting does not sound random. The wife may know more than what she's telling.
-
don't argue with your wife on a Sunday
-
I'll predict some Bizarre Love Triangle, or abuse.
-
Given that it was 4 AM on a Sunday, it would not surprise me if intoxicants were involved.
-
The NYPD presence in the area was far more consistent in the past when there were fewer shootings in the area. The constant presence back then seemed to be the result of some kids having started shooting at people off of the roof of the building on the southwest corner of Franklin and President. The response to the recent rash of gun violence has been tepid in comparison, to say the least. I rarely leave my apartment after dark these days.

The open drug dealing on Union near the Shuttle tracks can't be helping the night time situation.
-
Yeah, considering it's open knowledge, I have no clue why they don't seem to be doing more about it.
-
An article (can't remember where I read it) said the deceased along with his wife and two step kids were walking up to the train to head home to Brownsville when the husband exchange words with random guys on the street. After they moved on, a group of the guys went after him, jumped him and shot him.
-
News12 ran a version similar to that. (full version is behind a paywall, but the intro gives the story)It would not surprise me to learn that the group of guys he and his family came across weren't part of the overall hanging out and dealing "after midnight scene" that is part of the immediate area.

"Three people were charged Friday in a street fight that left a Brooklyn man fatally shot.
Ebony Rivera, 20, Stephari Joiles, 22, and Sequarie Chambers, 23, fought with Dion James, 30, on Sunday on Franklin Ave. and Union St. in Crown Heights before he was shot in the back, cops said.
Cops are still probing who pulled the trigger."

It seems the NYPD is arresting suspected gang members ahead of Jouvert, in attempt to have them incarcerated at least for the event itself. The timing ensures that they are unlikely to be out on bail by early Monday morning.quote:
Brooklyn narcotics cops stormed into Crown Heights on Friday, rounding up 35 alleged drug and gun dealers in a raid meant to clean house prior to Monday morning’s J’Ouvert celebration.
Those arrested are members of the Franklin Family drug and gun gang, law enforcement sources told The Post.
The roundup netted Brooklyn South narcotics cops a haul of 12 handguns and a kilo of cocaine, the sources said.
Drug gang warring centered on the Ebbetts Field Houses has been blamed for the bystander shooting death, during last year’s J’ouvert, of lawyer Carey W. Gabay, 43, an aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
A fifth suspect in Gabay’s shooting was arrested in California on Thursday.
Fourteen of those arrested have already been charged in a sealed indictment, sources said. One of the main arrest sites was 998 Union St. near the Brooklyn Museum and Botanic Garden. -
