  • Has anybody been?
  • I went for one of the Friends and Family nights. I had the chicken and the pot pie and it was GOOD. I also sampled some cheese and they were tasty! Wine was great. And the people were really nice, from the manager to the bartender to the food servers. Most of the staff seemed liked they were from the neighborhood and had done a lot of training with the BKW manager to develop their high level hospitality skills.
  • How's the place doing?  Haven't been by in a while.  Seem busy?
  • Looks busy when I look in.

And, it is now offering brunch:   http://www.bkwnyc.com/brunch/
  • Went last night for half-price wine night. The place was okay...
    - wine: not so great but then again, it's made in this region. Plus I didn't get the sense the server knew much about it.
    - service: a little strange. oddly timed and often distant feeling.
    - food: good, fine. I think I'd appreciate it more if the other pieces came together nicely.
    - inside: there's a wide aisle in the middle which I always appreciate in NYC. the ceiling paneling is pretty cool, too.

  • The Ms. and I finally went tonight.

Food is good, but place was decidedly less full than its competition on Franklin (Mayfield, Barbachino, Glady's, etc).

As implied above, they placed a big bet on selling wine.   However, I didn't see one table order a bottle of wine.

Sure, many tables had wine with dinner, but just as many seemed to have beer or cocktails.

My point is that I think wine may not be the draw the owners expected it to be...    They might need to emphasize the food aspect if they want to keep those seats filled.

6 months later: I regularly see seats unfilled. ...even during brunch hours on weekends. ...even on Thur - Sun during the evening hours. Are others seeing the same?

Yeah, though I always wonder if the back is full when I pass by. It's hard to get a good look from the sidewalk.
  • I've been in there twice recently. First time on a Thursday was fairly crowded but not packed by any means, the other time (Monday) pretty empty. Food is decent, wine is better than I would have expected and the folks working there are also very nice. They also have a great rewards program. I hope they hang in there...
  • I went for dinner. Place was about 1/2 full mid-week (a good sign) and there were no seats at the bar. Wine was good as well. Only negative was the waitress who talked like a kindergarten teacher addressing a group of clueless 5 year olds...
  • They have put significant $ into the renovation of the facility, so I suspect they are in this for the long haul. It is a large venue that it could do weddings, and may have a large business there that I have yet to be invited to.
