Virtual Arguments

So much of this message boards seems to be people arguing back and forth about this topic or that, i.e. kids, gender issues, race issues, etc. So boring.

Can't there be a special "no rants" section, where people can trade info like where to get their rugs cleaned or a good taco without any of the b.s. back and forth? I mean, most of this board has become fodder for one of gawkers "why I hate the slope" articles.

Does anyone know where I'm coming from on this?

  • I propose making threads viewable only if you click on the link, that way you're not forced to view threads that are uninteresting or annoying to you. Oh wait, that's already the case....
  • well, in the hopes of not becoming ironic and responding to your sarcasm in an argumentative manner, I'll say it plainly: the arguments creep in everywhere. witness: the hat post, the mexican food post, the avatar incident, and countless others.

    anyone with me? anyone?
  • Discussions aren't very fun when everyone is expressing the same opinion, now are they?

I'm not sure why this is such a bad thing. This is how people communicate and share ideas with each other. It's called discussion. Why would you expect human communication to be more civil online than it is offline? The internet is not a utopia where everyone is nice to each other...any more than the "non-virtual" or whatever the rest of the world is called. Your own post is intended to start an argument itself, is it not?

Sorry, that was ana.log ranting, not Guest.
  • Isn't this guest's post a rant unto itself?

Actually, compared to a couple of other forums I occasionally check out, this one is remarkably well-mannered. The other ones are just endless name calling, obscenities and trolling. People argue here, but for the most part it's above the belt.
  • Since this isn't Park Slope related at all, I'm moving it to board administration. Carry on!
