Garbage Summonses — Brooklynian

Garbage Summonses

I can't remember where (the Times?)but I recently read a story about some people living on DeKalb who were contesting sanitation department fines.

Our building has been victimized by the garbage cops as well. The ticket said--get this-- "cigarette butts, candy wrappers and misc. debris" and it was given at noon! There's obviously no way to control such minor litter and besides we live on a corner with a trash can that regularly overflows.

Has anyone had experience/success fighting such summonses? Is the local community board a good resource for this? Any advice would be apprecited.

  • My landlords have been fined a few times and didn't fight it, but they have started walking anything that's questionable down to the corner garbage cans to avoid getting fined directly. They even got fined for the leaflets people plaster our stoop with.
  • escap, walking anything to the corner garbage can be construed as illegal dumping...that would be a double whammy on your landlords!

We had a very lazy menu spammer last week - the guy / girl just left a huge plastic bag full of leaflets at the front door to the building!
