Corner of Washington and Prospect — Brooklynian

Corner of Washington and Prospect

I'm considering moving to an apartment at the corner of Washington and Prospect Place. Does anyone live nearby? Do you like the immediate area? Any recommendations? How do you feel safety-wise? How about amenities? (My initial feeling about all of it is good.)

I live in Sunset Park now and am eager to move to Prospect Heights, which I've always loved. I lived there (St. Marks and Carlton) in 1993-95. It's changed a lot, so I'd welcome input about the wider neighborhood as well as the immediate area I'm talking about.

Thanks!

  • The neighborhood has become safer since the time you last lived here. Most of the statements in the thread entitled "location, location..." apply to the corner you are considering. IMO, the area is safe, with the basic amenities not far away, and has nowhere to go but up. Sunset Park has PH beat on dive bars, though. At this point, all we have is Mooney's.

Hope you decide to join us...
  • Thanks! I'm eager to join you. You're right about dive bars, though. I plan to make occasional trips back to Sunset Park to visit the Rainbow and Melody Lanes (and recommend others do the same).
  • Have you ever checked out the Irish Haven, Green Isle, or Soccer Tavern? Now, those are bars!
  • I live on Washington between Park + Prospect and have been here since October. I *love* it. There is a car service on the block. It's a little sketchy but open 24 hours which makes me feel really safe late at night. There is also some sort of vague police annex type thing on grand ave and park place across the street...

You are close to 2 laundromats, a supermarket, a post office, bodega, dry cleaning, some restaurants inc. delivery, bars, a liquor store...it's a pretty wonderful location.

Hopefully -- welcome to the nabe!
  • You know what, you're right, I stand corrected: The Rainbow and Melody hardly qualify as dive bars. They really aren't dive-y at all. I am familiar with the fine establishments you mention, and I'll miss those too.
  • Beesknees, didn't mean to imply that the Rainbow or Melody don't qualify. Those places are just as great. :)
