Moving to the neighborhood... — Brooklynian

Moving to the neighborhood...

...from Boston, though I used to live in NYC as a child (Dean St!). I've just found an apartment right across from the southern edge of Prospect Park. It's nothing fancy, small, but cheap, and heat/hot water included! (Trust me, after Boston, this is a real luxury.) And rent controlled! So I'll be able to stay for awhile until I'm ready to buy.

Apparently this is the Flatbush neighborhood? Still fuzzy on the demarcation lines.

So can anybody suggest places where I can find the following?

-Groceries from a clean, non-skanky store?
-A place to sit down with a coffee for awhile and play bohemian artist (writer)?
-"Local favorite"/undiscovered damn good restaurants (all cuisines)?
-Bike lanes/best streets for biking?
