Nice Breakfast Near the B,Q

Le Gamin on Vanderbilt at I think Bergen is a nice French place with a delicious brunch/ breakfast. There's also Beast on Vanderbilt and St. Mark's which serves brunch.
Its a bit more upscale looking inside than say Tom's Restaurant for breakfast on Washington and Sterling which is good food but perhaps not for youu + business associate. -
There is also the Usual on Vanderbilt
-
Maybe Flatbush Farm too?

I agree. This is the best local option for a business breakfast/brunch. I had a meeting with one of my advisees there, and it was the perfect spot. Flatbush Farm would also be good, but I'm not sure if they're open for breakfast on weekdays.

What about Cousin John's on the PS side? Anyone?
-
Never been there. I'd be curious to hear about it too. Where is it?
-
70 7th... like three blocks in from Flatbush. I think it may be my best bet since my associate is coming from the Q and is unfamiliar with the neighb. I def want to try Le Gamin though. It sounds excellent.
-
not sure how solid/fab Cousin John's is. I third the rec. for Le Gamin, though. It's definitely the nicest place for a weekday breakfast in the 'hood.
-
Cousin John's is the little pastry shop, a mini-chain in the Slope
coffee, croissant, smaaaaall
it's fine, but not full breakfast and not particularly cosy or nice
if it's just coffee and a muffin and a quite place to talk
Joyce would have better baked goods and ambience
and
Cheryl's Global Soul would have more space. But they don't have the full brunch menu at weekday breakfast - I just asked them this weekend...
of course if you just want to get down with some cafe con leche and diner eggs, El Gran Castillo de Jagua is amenable and steps away from the Q -
come to think of it, the new Oaxacan place
"Chiles and Chocolate" on Seventh Ave on that end
opens at 7am -
I second El Gran. I like La Gamin and the Usual but they're not close to the B & Q. Well maybe The Usual is. I still like Park Cafe.
-
Oh, the breakfast at El Gran Castillo de Jagua is GOOOOD! I'm always sad on the weekends that they don't serve it later in the day. And the coffee's strong. I don't know if it's quite a business meeting type place though.

it is absurdly good, but I would be concerned about having a biz meeting there. the service isn't always perfect and the ambiance can be a bit dodgy depending on who is already there.
but if your client is really easy going and impressed by yumness, carneviento is the way to go! -
What about the Prospect Cafe? I am not sure if they serve brunch during the week though....
-
I took myself out for brunch at Prospect Cafe once and was sorely disappointed. Food was barely average, service was slow and unfriendly, and the atmosphere really left something to be desired. My server really reminded me of my boyfriend's apathetic teenage cousin - never looked me in the eye, sighed a lot, tossed my plate on the table, disappeared around check time, etc. It was actually kind of entertaining.
This was a while ago (I never went back) - anyone have any better experiences there? -
I have always had good experiences there, for brunch and dinner. I think that I if I had really hated I probably would not had said so on this board. I do not want to see them be destroyed. They have been around for a while and it would be a shame to have them driven out.
Oh well...
