well, I'm not sure I'll be there at 7 p.m. but I'll be there. see you this Thursday at Ripple (Washington, near St. Johns - east side of the street)

    I'm all about friendliness. that and I know some of the other owners so, hopefully, he won't throw a hissy fit. :) should be interesting.

    in any case, they're totes le cool about grabbing chinese, islands, gino's and showing up for some drinks. see y'all thurs.

    That's cool. And I'm sorry for his partners, but I just don't want to give any of my business to that guy after the way he behaved both towards everyone on this site and towards me via PM. Nor am I particularly comfortable going to a bar with anyone who gets violent when drinking, whatever the reasons or provocations might have been. I'm sure it'll probably be a perfectly nice time and that Ripple is a cool place, but maybe I'll see y'all at the next one or something.

    Yep, much as there are five? six? people who say they're going whom I'd like to see--particularly stacey, whom I haven't seen in a long time--this seems like ample enough reason for me to have an extra-homework-at-home night on Thursday.

    I heard that right near here there was a lot of violence, people got shot, lots of weeping and gnashing of teeth. The locals got totally whipped and were forced to evacuate. But that was in 1776, and I'm not going to let it cramp my style going forward.

    Yes- I'll sticky that after this week's event is over so people don't get confused. Ripple this Thursday 2/1. Air Hockey at Brownstone Billiards next week 2/8.

    Okay, so a while back this guy was originally posting here as Djuoh, acting fairly normal at first but then he started doing very trolly, combative, condescending posts. And then he started a sockpuppet he named Breuckelen. I think this was around September or so. For a while he was posting from with both user names, but then he switched over to using the Breuckelen name exclusively. In either case, he was being realy nasty -- name-calling, taunting other users, dismissing anyone who disagreed with him as not knowing what the hell they were talking about, etc. He was really angry that not everyone on the entire board wasn't as interested in the topics he felt were important about the neighborhood (the thread about Joyce Bakeshop, in particular, sent him right over the edge -- HOW DARE PEOPLE BE INTERESTED IN A NEW COFFEESHOP INSTEAD OF THE 18 JILLIONTH THREAD ABOUT GENTRIFICATION?!).

    He was starting to drive people away from the site, because he was posting really prolifically and was turning everything into his personal soapbox. He was also extremely frustrating to argue with -- one of those people who just ignore it if you ask a pointed question that might disprove his point. And then he started sending really rude, abusive PM's to several people who called him out on his shit on the boards (myself included), being even nastier than he was willing to be in front of everyone else. Not too long after that started he left of his own accord, after a couple of time-outs and coming thisclose to being banned.

    If you want to see what I'm talking about, you can read some of Breuckelen's old posts to see some of his "handiwork" -- some of the most vitriolic stuff got deleted by mods, but there's still plenty of evidence of how nasty he was to others and how disruptive he was to the site as a whole.

    So yeah, I don't really want to give him any of my business.

    Sorry to burst that bubble Appolonia, but there are like20 investors at ripple. I am not one of them, but I want to set the record kinda straight. It is also a fine bar. Djuoh/Brueklen is simply one of them. I think it is weak to avoid a place that is trying to rev up revenue on Washington Ave, which is the end of the frontier before Crown Hts. proper.

    I'm psyched that this will happen at ripple as they/Buttafly have been here the longest of any bars in our area. If anything, for the vibrancy most of us wish for to happen arounf this neighborhoodm, we should support this place.

    BTW, you should tell them that this is happening. They'll probably have a drink special for Brooklynians.

    Fuck fiucking up the growth of a thriving business because of one person. Do you remember Soda whwn there was a pool table? Fights all the time, yet no one is banishing that place.

    Again, I have no economic stake in the place at all. I swear, but I love those peeps who run that shit.
