Coffee Bars
So I move into the area&one of the first things I do is read this blog. Finding good vendors can be hard so I figured I would cut to the chase.
I tried Prospect Perk(tiny place nice people, not amazing anything) Heights Coffee(high speed internet, nice place, awful everything)Joyce(adorable, well put together shop, very expensive, closes super early, opens after I get to the office, although a bakery-not great baked goods)Muddy Waters(a hole in the wall, Ok service, not the greatest decor, the best hot chocolate I've ever had&amazing moist muffins, good sandwiches)Dunkin Donuts(hey they are open 24 hours&conveniently on Flatbush when I am shooting to work at 6am.

Well, that's it. You've tried them all. Welcome to the neighbourhood.
If you think Joyce's baking is bad (seriously?? Did you have a raspberry croissant? Did you have two in row like I did yesterday?), you're probably going to be massively, massively disappointed with the quality of just about everything in Prospect Heights.
Sorry. -
I went over to Cheryl's Global Soul over on Underhill. The coffee was pretty good but I wasn't impressed with the muffin.
maybe you have to venture over to park slope. Blue sky bakery has amazing muffins. Gorilla has great coffee. -

Cheryl's has great cappuccino and the best scones on the planet. Sunday brunch is good too - haven't been for dinner....

the scones at joyce rival scones you get in the UK (well, I was just in the UK and thought "this is good, but damn, it tastes a lot like the joyce scones ... yum!") but I like butter.
-
Prospect Perk, nice people, open early, (6 am ) everyday even Sundays, free wireless internet, good cookies, muffins scones and delicious bagels and coming soon Fair Trade organic coffee. FYI.
-
france, spain and italy: amazing espresso shots for a euro. hurrah.
oh, wait, can we get those in the us? -

Just tried Joyce's scone (cranberry and pecan) this weekend. And while I did mutter DAYYYAM as I paid 6~ for a plain croissant, the said scone and large coffee, I have to say, that was one DAYYYAM good (and not tiny) scone!!! -

Yeah, the scones are the best baked goods Joyce has. They're delicious and go really nicely with the rich strong coffee! Definitely not cheap, but they're worth it. -
Subject: Cool Coffee Lounge/Chill out Spot
I am very impressed with the overall atmosphere over at Heights Coffee in Prospect Heights. The coffee is to die for, the staff is courteous, the layout reminds me of my favorite lounge on Upper East Side, and you can use the owner as a reference guide to learn about the history of this very culture rich neighborhood.
Jazz Wednesdays at Heights Coffee provides an environment in which you can unwind form your busy work day. I am particularly impressed with the diverse backgrounds of the patrons who come out to support this hidden treasure that is located right in our backyard.
I suggest we all meet a Heights Coffee for great tasting coffee, fine wine substantive conversation, and a free connection to the world via the wireless services provide at no charge. I am crazy about Heights Coffee!

Oh, honestly. This isn't even advertising; you're just making a fool of yourself.

Geez, people, it's a HIDDEN TREASURE! Come on!

c'mon gang,
who among us is not passionate of upper east side coffee bars? -
Where is all the hate coming from? This is really not that deep! I am simply sharing my view point on Heights Coffee. Let's make a date, a cup of coffee on me at Heights Coffee this Thursday evening. Who's in?

The hate is coming from people who resent your transparent attempts to pass yourself off as someone other than a person with a financial stake in this business. There will be no more warnings. In the future I will delete these messages instead of responding to them.

Edited, as Erin's later post was removed by another mod for continued shilling. However, I wanted to leave this part up to explain why people reacted so strongly to her original post:
Looking at your original post, it reads like p.r. copy, and it doesn't sound at all like an enthusiastic review from someone who doesn't have a stake in the place being reviewed. Also, a lot of the positive posts about local businesses you see from other users on this message board come from people who have been posting here for a while on a variety of topics -- so others here know a little about the person posting it. When someone who's brand new and has never posted about anything else writes something about a business in such glowing terms, it just sounds fishy. That's why what you wrote set off alarms for so many people. -
Try running a search of this forum for Heights Coffee. You'll discover a number of other over-the-top posts in praise of the establishment, all written, curiously enough, in the exact same bizarre tone as yours. Honestly, all that stuff about "providing an environment in which you can unwind form your busy work day" and suggesting that we all get together there even though you've never met any other posters here that I know of--who talks like that? Someone with a stake in the business, that's who. Just like apollonia said.
saw how the moderator, who should to be “neutral,†in these matters, IMO - came out attacking this establishment, and was not called out for that
As far as I can see, the only person talking about Heights Coffee has been you. Talking critically about your post isn't the same thing as talking critically about the establishment. -
I live on Washington, and there is a new place opening at 704 Washington that looks really great. I think they open in April. Whether or not it's any good remains to be seen.
Also, how lame is it that NYMag goes on about how Ginger Root is open early and a great spot to grab coffee or a muffin, and whenever I leave for work at 9:00 pm (not early in my world) it's NEVER open? NYMag is a magazine of lies! -

How reliable is your source about an April opening?
I saw a worker coming out of this place in Jan of last year and he said they would be opening in a week. Then last March or April I saw people inside so I popped my head in and asked when they were opening and I was told June. From what I've seen I don't expect it to ever open. -

It's especially grating, given that everyone who's been to the place as a customer, not an obvious shill (with the recent exception of MPWW) knows that the place absolutely sucks in every possible way. -
I don't even really care one way or another about Heights Coffee. I've only been there once or twice, thought my drink was okay but that the music was too loud or otherwise distracting to work with. Joyce is just closer to me.

Wow, that's really big and mature of you. If you want to argue, then you should argue. Don't just freely denounce. In the same breath, don't transparently shill either.
You want to tear down some awful establishments -- take aim at all the lowlife, no-effort cafes who are just out for your dollar and could give a shit about the type of goods they purchase. The one thing that Heights and Joyce and Gorilla all have in common is that they're small, hard working outfits out to make YOUR experience better with high end goods and friendly staff/atmosphere.
No one institute is better/worse. Everyone likes different things. You want VERY DARK roasted, but solid 100% Fair Trade Coffee...go to Gorilla. Personally, I stay away from the Starbucks-style stuff, and honestly Gorrila's coffee makes Starbucks seem like Dunkin. Is Heights perfect? No. Find me the perfect cafe though. Anyone can find fault with anything.
The handful of times I've been there, I've a) Had a good cup and b) found the place packed. Therefore, I think they're doing ok despite the small handful of previous contrarians.
The point is, to relate back to the first post on this thread...PH can hold it's own in terms of solid coffee shops with most any other area in Bklyn. I'm not gonna hop on the G to follow the flock to W'Burg/Gpt for an overhyped cup of latte art when I can go to any of the aforementioned places talked about on this board. -

Fair enough. But Heights Coffee is the only one in the nabe to repeatedly create fake personas on this board to promote their business. That behavior alone puts them in the "low-life" category in my book, regardless of what you think of their coffee and atmosphere (which I've explained my opinions on in detail when this has come up in the past).given that everyone who's been to the place as a customer, not an obvious shill (with the recent exception of MPWW) knows that the place absolutely sucks in every possible way.

Height Coffee never seems to really know what it is or how it should work. Maybe I just like routine, but every time I went in there the milk and sugar stand was moved somewhere else, or the good chairs that were in the window were now in the back, etc. I can't say why this bugged me, except that I felt they were never truly confident in what they were doing.
Also, now I feel huge guilt, because I used to go there every day and the staff knew my order, and then the second I realized how much better the coffee is at Joyce, I dumped them like a bad lover, never to return. Which, of course, leaves me screwed on Monday, when Joyce is closed. I could never do the walk of shame back to Heights after jilting them. -
i enjoy Mule very much, on 4th ave between Bergen and saint marks, they also have a bar and that is a big plus, can't wait til the garden opens in the spring..

I've never tried that place, but I definitely will make a point of it now. -

Subject: new coffee/wine bar possibility
We have a great space for a coffee shop, wine bar near the Museum. Our tenant fell through. Any entrepreneurs out there. The neighborhood definetly needs a comfortable place with good food and atmosphere.
