Fairway and Baked

I walked down to 4th Ave and 9th Street this afternoon, and caught the B71 to Fairway. Today was a day off from work, and I really had no pressing plans before 9PM.

It was quite the plesant trip. I'm a big fan of their chipolte chili powder, so I restocked my supply as well as bought an ancho chili powder to try. I bought some of the house-brand freshly-ground flavored coffees. I also made sure to hang out for a while at the waterfront railing, and just gaze at the view. Then I wandered about and picked up a few more needed odds and ends.

Afterward, I hopped into Baked to buy a slice of their Coca Cola Cake which looks like a very promising dessert.

A hop onto the returning B71, and home beefore I knew it!

Anyway, it's not much of substance that I'm writing about, but hey. I thought someone might like a spot to chat about Fairway or Baked. Then again, maybe not.

Your post brought a smile to my face - my wife and I are having a brief affair witn Fairway and the mere mention of it cheers us. I love Fairway - the cafe and river view is the best deal in town.

We're thinking of how to make a regular habit of bussing it there and car serviceing it back to PS.

I've been diggin' Fairway too -- actually pleasant to visit, even when the Saturday crowds fill up the place.

me, too! can't get enough of the place. i grab my zipcar twice a month on sunday mornings and load it up with all sorts of gustatory goodies.

then of course, if it's open, i gotta make a pitstop afterwards to Pier 41 and visit Steve's for keylime pie.

OK - you convinced me - I just reserved a zipcar for 4 hours for tomorrow - the hell with buses and car services - it's only money

oh it's real simple, actually.

usually steve's opens @11:30 am on Sunday. if you exit the back way from Fairway (you are forced to make a right hand turn) you'll see his old truck and it'll tell ya where to go; if he doesn't have the sign out, make your first left from the street behind the supermarket (sorry, i don't remember the name). make a left onto Pier 41 and follow the signs to Steve's -- they are hard to miss.

Thanks - just got back - zipcar rental for 4 hours - Fairway for 2 hours (it is packed today!) - Steve's for 15 mintes (only ones there) picked up the 8" keylime pie - and we still have time to zip back and get huaraches at the ball fields! Life is good

yippee!!

well, to add to the Red Hook experience after Baked, Fairway, and Steve's, next time tack on a visit to LeNell's liquors. The folks in there are knowledgeable without being pushy, and they have the finest selection of bourbons I know. I'm also a big fan of Slope Cellars, but I like to patronize LeNell's when I can. Plus, they always do a handful of taste tests, and I have come away with various interesting things I never would have bought on sight alone.

Check 'em out one day...

P.S. I've never been for the ballfield experience meself, but I'm told all the food is dynamite and very much worth the trip. That true?

This is the third time we've been to the ball fields - the food stalls are on Bay and Clinton. We always have the Salvadoran pupusas and the Mexican huaraches - pork and chicken. Today we had the ceviche mixto too - fantastic.

Here's a site where a guy went for weeks straight and wrote a review on everything - go down the right margin and read everything with Red Hook on it.

I've been in the liquor store across from The Good Fork (great restaurant!) - is that the same one you're talking about?

I never noticed before if The Good Fork was across the street, but I'm thinking that yes, it is. They are both between Coffey and Van Dyke, right? Another restaurant I've been meaning to try.....

the ball fields are well worth the trip. tamarind juice, arepas & pupsas, ceviche & empanadas ... gosh. so fantastic. totally go.

Late to the discussion, but Steve's frozen chocolate-covered mini key lime pies are incredible! Two thumbs enthusiastically up. Mmmmmmmmm.

ooooh yummy! I heartily endorse Baked by the way, and the Bagel Shop too, where you can get a huevoqueso on a toasted sesame for 1.75!

I tried to hit 360, but it was a little short on the vegetarian options. Maybe one day

Hey T-fal, We live in RH and my boyfriend is veg. If you go to 360 and tell them you don't eat meat they will put together a special dish for you. It's always delicious and fresh and worth it.

In the past we've just told the server when they come to take our order or tell us the specials.
