What the heck is wrong with my cat?

Wednesday has always been strange, I've had her since she was 2 months old and she's been weird ever since. But for the love of God and all that is holy, what could explain this?

I've caught her in there 3 times in the past few weeks. I'd like to think it's senility since she's 12 now but she's always been a nutter. I thought her sleeping in the big paper bag of plastic bags was odd.

But the litter box thing is just wrong. She's healthy and happy. Any ideas why she would do this?

  • Why else - to make you crazy and show you who is boss :)
I know it must drive you crazy but she is so adorable how can you get mad at cute face.
Wish I had an answer for you but I have 2 psychos at home too.
  • I swear her sole purpose in life is to make me nuts. She's lucky I love her something awful, the little wacko. She totally uses her cuteness as much as possible, especially when she wants a mommy ride to her food!
  • My girl cat does this. She LOVES the smell of fresh litter. When I clean the box and add new litter she rolls around in it.........or she will squeeze out a shit or pee a bit, even if she doesn't have to. Sometimes she smells the fresh litter and then throws herself on the floor and rolls around.

I don't get it. You won't catch me swimming in my toilet!

  • See, it wouldn't be that strange if she did it when I cleaned it out. My cats are all girls and they love fresh litter too, one of them always has to come over and "christen" the box. I just realized that she never lays in the litter box in the bathroom, only the one in the kitchen. Maybe because it's near the radiator?

Who knows? She's such a funny little cat, with her stumpy legs and inability to jump properly.

P.S. Flexichick, any pics of your kitties here?
  • Yes, there are pics of my kitties somewhere here. You can probably find them somewhere on the pet threads I was going to post a pic of my girl in her box rolling around, but I'm too lazy to remember how to post an image ;-)

Bathroom habits of cats are weird. Whenever my boy cat shits he "talks" like crazy and runs around the house. I don't know if he's high from the smell, if he feels lighter or if he just is proud of himself or something.

Last night at around 4am boy cat went into the box and girl cat (aka La Terrorista) decided to jump off my bed and harass him while he was still inside the box. Lots of meowing and running around the house ensued. Um....knock it off! it's 4am, you knuckleheads!
  • At least you're not dealing with this:

    Or, heaven forbid, this:

I gotta admit though, I've never a cat just chill out in the ol' litter box. Our cat is good about using the box but seems to want to spend as little time in there as possible - except when I change the litter. At that point she gets very agitated and keeps hopping in the box and squawking as if I'm going to throw the whole thing out and she won't have any place to go. Maybe yours has decided it's time to keep an eye on her spot.
  • That IS strange. I had a cat once who died lying in the litterbox at night while I was asleep (it was *really* sad, I'm sure you can imagine) but that was the only time I've ever seen one stay in there beyond the time necessary to do its business, kick half the litter out all over the bathroom, and split.
  • Flexichick, your kitties are adorable! I love the name Stella, I don't know why but I think it's such a great name. And La Terrorista? Hysterical!

Drano, ceiling cat is one of my favorites. I have an unhealthy obsession with kitty macros, I need to go to rehab.

apollonia666, that is terrible, what a horrible thing to have happen. I've never seen Wednesday do this before we moved, I'm wondering if it's because the kitchen litter box is next to the radiator. She's a pretty bizarre cat though and always has been.

Is it just me or are female cats ridiculously messy with their litter? My 3 legger Caseopia is the worst offender of them all. She's missing her right front leg but she manages to fling litter everywhere with her left. When I took in the girl and boy kitties, she was messy but he was very neat! There was very little litter surrounding the box when he was by himself. Girl kitty was messy too but not as bad as my girls. They are also extremely messy eaters, pieces of dry food all over the place. I put their main bowl in a shallow wine crate and they still get food all over. They are lucky I love them!
  • Caseopele - I love my Stella Marie (she needs two names with a huge personality like hers). Stellaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. It's fun to say ;-)

I have several pictures of her rolling around in the box. She's a nutter.

My boy cat has OCD about being clean. We play "rubber bands" where I shoot them in the air and he yells at them while they fall. If they touch him, he immediately needs to clean that spot, because he is "dirty". I'm not kidding. He's not happy if he's dirty!

Apollonia - how sad! They usually try to go someplace private when they are ready to die (and I finally saw Grey Gardens this weekend)
  • For you, Caseopele:

Yep, she's a freak. These were taken right after I put fresh litter in.
  • That's hysterical! At least Stella has the sense to roll around in there after you cleaned it. I love how she looks so pleased with herself in the first picture and in the second she's like, "Heaven is a fresh litter box!"
  • The second picture is funny because I think she'd nap in there if I let her.

She is the funniest cat ever.

One day maybe I'll post a series of her fetching. She steals objects around the house (dollar bills, receipts, the wipey thing for my glasses) and dunks them in my water glass until I throw it across the room so she can bring it back.

    Over. And Over. And Over.

I should have known she was nuts when I found her at the SPCA in a cage with 4 of her brothers and one sister. They were all asleep, except for her. She was standing on top of the pile looking just like she does in my avatar.
