Cat pee smell here forever?

The boy kitty I took in and found a home for peed on my bathroom floor near a wooden wine crate I use for storage. I cleaned it with conventional cleaning products but I can still smell it after I shower. I guess the steam brings it out. I know how to get cat pee smell out of small fabric items but I have no idea how to get rid of it on a hard surface. I think he may have peed on a corner of my couch too. I can't quite tell since I smell phantom smells.

I can't really afford to buy any expensive stuff but I was wondering if anyone knew of something to get rid of the smell? Thanks!

    go to a pet store. there are things there that will help. but, honestly, it might be more helpful to just get rid of the crate. :(

    a really, REALLY expensive service got cat pee out of an absurdly expensive turkish rug for me, but as I said, it cost a damn fortune.

    most people i know have at least some limited success with Nature's Miracle products. haven't used it myself, so i can only offer up what people have told me. don't know about it's efficacy on wood, but it should help on your couch! in case you don't know it, here:

    I'm not entirely sure that the pee reached the wood crate. He peed on the floor in front of it, I thought I caught it before it hit the crate.

    I've always heard that Nature's Miracle doesn't work. But I found a post that said you have to wait a couple of weeks for it to fully work. I figure I ought to give it a shot. Thanks for the advice!

    Ack - I can't remember what this stuff is called, but it is NOT Nature's Miracle.

    I buy it at All Four Paws on PPW (btw 16th and Windsor).

    It's a powder in a white and red box. You mix it with water and you have to let it sit and soak into wherever the smell is.

    Before my cat died, she started peeing all over. This is the only thing that worked.

    If you go there, ask Jackie or Vivienne what this stuff is called - they turned me on to it. It's not too expensive, and lasts forever.

    Nature's Miracle works great. This would be the product that I would purchase for cleaning the soiled area. It will do the job. Clean the area several times with the product and the odor should go away. Conventional cleaning products won't do the trick. Nature's Miracle has special enzymes in it that conventional cleaning products do not. Get Nature's Miracle "Just for Cats".

    This stuff has enzymes that remove the odor, too. The trick with this stuff (and NM) is that you should not try using other cleansers first (no soap, bleach, lysol, etc.)

    Subject: the agony of cat pee...

    I tried Nature's Miracle after our adopted kitty, Spike, went to town in the bathroom during the acclimation process. It was terrible in there!

    Nature's Miracle seemed only ok. I used half the bottle all over the floor. I just tried a recipe based on baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. If that doesn't work, I'll try the Odor Mute. I wish y'all luck in removing the smell...

    Mix together 1 quart warm water and 1/2 cup white vinegar, and dribble the mixture onto stain. rub it out.

    i grew up with male cats, sometimes they would spray all over the place (espcially if there was a stray in the yard). Its amazing what white vinegar can do.

    the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide is for skunk stink, it has limited success with cat pee

    Tugj - Odor Mute will not work after you have tried all of those other things. You need to do it FIRST.

    All--unfortunately, it was Sunday when the cat was doing all this. I had no odor mute or any of the other products on hand, so I had to do try all the others (water, water + baking soda, vinegar, vinegar + baking soda) first. The alternative was to just blot dry and leave there, which, by 2 a.m., just didn't seem like an option.

    Seems like all these products aim to be "first responders" but it's not an option in my case, unfortunately.
