Parking? — Brooklynian

Parking?

I'll be moving to a new place on 21st street between 5th and 6th in a few months, and am excited about getting to know my new neighborhood. :D

Here's my question: how is parking in the area? I'd love to get a car, but only if I don'y have to pay $200-$300 a month to garage it.

Thanks in advance for any advice/insights!

  • You might not get something right in front of the house but theres generally spots to be found.

More condos opening up though so its bound to get tighter.
  • Hi Alice,

I posted this question a few months ago, and the one person to reply, Mr. Lost in Greenwood Heights, had this to say: "The majority of the side streets in GWH only have alt parking 2 times a week (yippy!) There's always 6th Ave/24th St, which seems to be the commuters parking zone for folks needing early morning parking then a hop on the R train at 25th/4th. And many of the more industrial streets between 5th-3rd Aves are open during the day..."

I haven't noticed many garages around the area, either. I'm moving in soon from Cobble Hill, and just about anything will be better than the 20-30 minutes I spend looking for spots currently.
  • I am on 22nd and 7th and have yet to park outside my block.
  • Thanks for the feedback, guys! It sounds encouraging....

I am also posting another question regarding security in my new apt, since it's on the ground floor...let me know what you think if you see the post.

Thanks Jane, yes, no real need for a parking lot, unless you cannot do the twice a week move, if so, PM and I will check some locals :)
