XM Radio — Brooklynian

XM Radio

I just got access to this. Anybody have any good suggestions for a starting point? Looking at all of the station options is a bit overwhelming.

I don't care for live music recordings, opera, metal or listening to tv shows (talk radio is one thing, but I don't want to listen to something I could watch instead).

Other than that, I'm pretty open.

  • I like O&A on 202 myself. I also listen to old school rap (The Rhyme on 65), Cinemagic (movie soundtracks) on 27, New Wave/hardcore on 44, Deep Tracks, etc,. I also get their live stream on my Mac which is good because they offer a few more stations.
  • Thanks! My first stop has been The Rhyme. I like it :-)
  • I can't get enough of stand up 150, and XM Chill 84, XM 70 Real Jazz, and to round it out 74 Bluesville

I second Deep Tracks (40). The 60s and 70s stations are a good idea, but they repeat stuff way too much, and its usually limited to the hits. My dad loves Bluesville as well.
  • Thanks! More stuff to try

I would say cancel your subscription and then get Sirius so you can listen to Howard Stern. But that's just me.

They (XM and Sirius) merged a short time ago (or they will, barring anything unforeseen, such as the FCC putting the kibosh on it), so maybe no action is in order. Or, as has been suggested, prices will be hiked and she'll wanna cancel altogether...

They most definitely did not merge a short time ago and they are probably no where near merging. Terrestrial radio is going to fight their merger tooth and nail. That would be unfortunate. Regular radio is dead to me - especially from the music perspective.
  • The merger has been all over the place, and while it will be fought, it'll likely go through.
  • Well, since my access is free, I'm going to stick with it
