Attacked on 6th street

Saturday night at about 11pm I was walking with some friends on 6th street. When we got to 6th and 6th Avenue we ran into a group of about 10 kids ranging in age from 14 to 18 years old. They told us to give them money and when I refused one of them pushed me over a fence into someone’s flowerbed. The owner of the house came out and started screaming at me (?!) for destroying her flowers. The kids all thought it was a big joke and just egged her on. Luckily, we saw a cab and jumped into it but not before one of the kids took a swing at me and punched me in the face. If that lady hadn’t come out to yell at me or if we hadn’t been able to grab that cab I don’t know what would have happened. I called 311 the next day but they were less than impressed.

    that sucks.

I would have called 911 instead - right when it happened.

Wow! So sorry to hear this happened to you! why didn't you call the police right away though instead of waiting until the next day and then calling 311?

Of course 311 doesn't give a crap when you call them the next day. What are they going to do about it after the fact?

Why didn't you call the cops right away? A group that large would be pretty easy for the cops to track down. Because of your inaction, they probably walked down the street and mugged someone else.

Beware of Teens. Any place, any race, any culture. When you see a group of teens, it's pure blood lust + hormones = trouble. Hence the seemingly constant brawls at John Jay.

We had been drinking and just wanted to get out of there. Booze makes you do stupid things and prevents you from thinking straight. I know I should have called them right away but for some dumb reason I didn't. I just wanted everyone else out there to be aware of what happened.

i hope you still got in touch with the cops. make a report. 311 doesn't give a damn.

i hope those punks would get what they deserve.

    Are you not armed?

    I glad you both survived.

I will call my sons and warn them. Makes one wonder--guess roofs are safe--with 3 officers per call, FTAP.

Very sorry to hear you were attacked. Please call the police and file a report.

    Take care of yourself.

file the report. My fiance was mugged a few summers ago and I pushed him to file after the fact. Long story short, the guy mugged someone else, they filed a report and got him. The police brought in my fiance, he testified and now the guy is in jail.

At some point this kids will do it again and when they get caught, it will help all out to have those reports on file.

I want to file a report but my memory of the attack is crap. One of those kids could be sitting across from me right now and I wouldn't even know it. Stupid booze. I will do it tonight when I get home. But if all I can say is "some kids tried to mug me and I don't have any descriptions of what they looked like" is that going to do any good? I'm afraid the cops will be like "you were drunk-case closed."

Maybe the woman who came out to yell at you can describe them. Plus, I think it is good for cops and community to know that these type of things are taking place. Maybe these kids live on/near 6th/6th or hang out there -- you never know

Bullshit! When I was a teen I never robbed or mugged anyone, nor did any other tenn in my whole high school!

Obviously, pastoralia doesn't mention these teens race or culture, heck it was probably mixed, but perhaps not. Being politically correct doesn't extend to muggings and robberies.

I wish pastoralia was more descriptive so that we'd all have abetter idea as to just what kind of teens to beware of!

    Umm.

Beware of the kind of teens that want to take your money and punch you in the face. That kind sucks.

For what's its worth my one sober friend said they were white. She probably saved my life by dragging me into a cab. I've seen groups of white kids hanging around on various stoops on 6th street like they live there but I'm pretty sure they don't actually live there. There's nothing worse as a bunch of teens wanting to prove their "manhood" that's how bad, meaningless violence happens.

The lady might help ID them. While she was screaming at me she kept threatening to call the cops and my sober friend kept telling her to call them as the kids were circling us. But, from what my friend told me she was more upset that her pansies got crushed than someone was getting mugged. It was a crazy, scary night.

YEah I did. Sorry, but you must be the PC police. Please make sure that when the police issue all points bulletins, they don't mention har color, eye color, skin color because that would be racist.

And please patrol all the newspapers (including the Park Slope paper) which include physical descriptions of perpatrators in their weekly crime blotter.

Ugh. You political correctness makes me sick. Ugh.

pastor, so sorry you had such a scary experience!

drunk or no, next day or no, please consider filing a report with the police. they may give you the ol' eye roll because of your non-sobriety at the time of the incident, but you would be doing a good civic deed for the rest of your PS neighbors if you told your tale. nothing may ever come of it, but at least you know you did the right thing by the community.

    take care

A little heavy on the response there but the reality is that part of describing a pert includes hair color, color jacket, blah blah and race (as far as you can identify it) The truth is that we get the feeling that so many people in NYC who do commit a crime go free and that is true but, think of how many more would be out there committing the next crime if accurate descriptions were not put out to the public and given to police.

In many issues I am and proud to be the politically correct person but in this area I think the priority of keeping the community safer is the over-ride. If I was posting here about a similar incident I would be saying, white, green, black.. whatever!

You don't really need a physical description to file a police report for an incident such as this. Just that it was a large group of teens between 14-18 is pretty good. Also, their actions are fairly descriptive. Please report it so that when (not if) it happens again, the cops will be able to have some sort of connection.

As the weather gets better (and school break is coming!), it will only be more common.

Its funny because when I read this I just assumed it was a group of white kids or a racially mixed group, because I can't imaging 10 black kids between the ages of 14 & 18 hanging out on a street in PS at 11pm without someone calling the cops to see what was going on.

Male, female, combo? You had one sober friend with you? What was their description of the teens?

What a stupid statement. Of course the more identifying characteristics you can provide helps the officers. What if they split up...into 2 groups. Is the officer suppose to do eeny meeny miney mo?Any descriptions including race, height, clothing, distinguishing marks such as piercings or tattoos is helpful. Also I assumed the same....cant possibly be a group of african american kids in park slope late at night without someone calling in the troops.

Sorry, but when it comes to president, music idol, sports hero, banker, bus driver, CEO, attorney, judge, teacher, etc. the physical description of the person(s) really doesn't matter to me. But when it's a mugger, a rapist, a thief, etc. yeah, it matters.

Use 911 to stop crime. 911 is the right number to call in an emergency when a prompt response is needed.

311 is the number to call if it's a cold winter day and your landlord refuses to turn on the heat.
