Daver, here, have a cookie. I think you've earned it. :-)

Back to the original point: one good thing about filing some sort of police report, even if you can't give a good description, would be to at least alert the police that that may be a corner to keep an eye on for a little while.

Another thing that may help would be if you maybe paid a visit to the home of the woman with the flowers -- maybe with some small gift for her, like a gift certificate from the Botanic Garden or another florists' shop -- to apologize and explain what happened. Smoothing things over may also make her want to file a report as a witness to the incident, and you'd have a stronger case.

At some point this kids will do it again and when they get caught, it will help all out to have those reports on file.
Things sure have changed. I got mugged in 1990 on 13th street by two guys with a knife and a stolen car. I got the license plate but the cops were apathetic, no apb, nothing. A few weeks later two guys of the exact same description almost killed a carpenter in his shop with a knife. I don't know if they ever caught him. Even when we were broken into, the cops laughed it off. NOW, they send detectives to talk to all of the neighbors.

    That's a good idea.

She may still decide she doesn't want to get involved, but at the very least she won't think of you anymore as "the guy who stomped on my flowers".

You're right. After the fact, I got home and realized that there are rarely cops on the Manhattan bridge path. If someone did come after you to hurt you, you'd be screwed. I hope my call helps motivate them to have a few more foot patrols.

And that's a really good suggestion, Queenc, about going talk to the neighbor. I would be surprised if they didn't want to help after they heard what exactly happened. Plus, I know how it sucks to get your plants squashed and would definitely offer to help replant someone's flowers if I fell on them.

May have been said earlier but I didn't see anyone say so.

They picked it up via Gowanus...

To complete the picture, the original poster admits to having been drunk at the time of the attack, but notes he was with some sober companions. So, let's recap: A Park Slope resident--either a recent buyer or an old timer--comes out to find someone sprawled on her flowers surrounded by nearly a dozen teenagers and her first reaction is to be worried about the flowers? As in, "Honey, that bastard is dying on my pansies?" Ah, to be attacked in the Slope, stumble dying onto someone's flowers and hear someone screaming at you for killing their flowers. What a way to go.
    lol.

While I disagree with calling 311 the next day, if pastoralia felt threatened, pastoralia should have called 911 immediately.
It's sweet that you're concerned enough to repeat this four times now. But I think it's safe to assume he's gotten the message.

You're assuming A LOT. The dude called THREE ONE ONE to report a MUGGING...the NEXT DAY. Who does he call if his home is burning down...Key Span?

daver, that cracked me the hell up. Especially this:
now if we are talking a gerbil's ass, I could probably get one on loan.

Jesus! That's awful, filmlover. Even with a license plate # they didn't go after them? Like a knife mugging is something that can be shrugged off? That's really awful and it sucks that happened to you... and that the carpenter was the one to pay the biggest price for the apathy.

Yeah, I'm sorry I crushed your flowers while being mugged. Next time I'll have them toss me in the street.

    311.
    911.
I'm going to dial 611 so I can 411 on when my cell bill is due.
Then I'm gonna walk over to 711 and get a slurpie. Mmm.

Yeah, I gues I'm a pussy because I was too drunk to form a coherent thought and I didn't take on a crowd of ten teenagers (The other guy in my group was as drunk as me and the other person was his girlfriend). Unless you're Spider-Man I don't think there's anyway one person can win a fight against ten people. Focus on one or two and get clocked from the side. Get put on the ground and bring on the kicks to the head. So to all you arm-chair Jet Li's out there...Fuck off.

No, but we're not sure what you ARE trying to do by repeating yourself four times in a row. Are you hoping someone develops a time machine, so our friend can go back in time and then correct his mistake?...Because that could take a while.

pastoralia, fuck that jerk. Someone always has something tough to say about an incident that didn't happen to them. I'm just glad you are okay and I hope that lady heard what happened and realizes what a self-centered twat she was.
