    I guess the memory lingers.

    Hanabi has good lunch specials.

Twice Thai Taste let me down. In the restaurant, I ordered an eggplant dish that was nothing as the menu described. I gave them another shot on the take-out route and was bummed with my $15.00 appetizer-sized dinner (five small shrimp with some onion slices that was not spectacular) that did not make a full meal. I paid the same for a similar dish at Rice and got a big meal. We have so many other Thai options -- Lemongrass Grill, Mango, Beet, Song, Watana, and Rice. Thai Taste is not terrible, it just has competition in this neighborhood. Thai Taste's staff/service was polite and prompt.

How do you water down a tap beer? Or a bottle?

Pepperocino is excellent! Both their pizza and homemade pastas are delish!

I really like Melt, Miriam and Tamari if you're looking for good places, even thought they're not on your list.

Thanks for all of these great responses... and keep them coming if possible.

To the poster above, I also like Miriam & have eaten something I liked at Tamari - years ago so I forget what it was. As for Melt, I need recommendations there; I thought the burger was nothing special & did not like the fish.

But really with this thread I'm looking for input on the restaurants that no one ever talks about. The places I see every day & wonder about. After the responses here slow down I'll post a summary weighing the input with my own experiences of these places (if any).

I completely disagree w/the bad reviews of Park Slope Ale House. Food is solid, beer selection is great, and Kristin (aka the red-headed bar wench) is one of the hidden treasures of the neighborhood.

Thumbs up on Peperoncino; we've eaten there three or four times in the last two years, and have never been disappointed. Very good pizza, pasta, salads & wine.

Thumbs down on Trattoria Mangia; we brought the inlaws there once, and found the food to be hopelessly mediocre, (an almost identical experience to our dinner at 7th Ave's Tutta Pasta).

I'm embarrassed to say I have never been to any of them and have never even heard of half of them. Guess I know what I'm doing this summer!

Calexico -- inexpensive, kinda slow, but tasty food...gross that they use bar soap in the bathroom, which is illegal according to sanitation and safety standards...makes me wonder how clean it is...

El Viejo Yayo -- always delicious...sometimes the service is PERFECT, other times, i get attitude... still yummy though.

Tonio's -- sooooo delicious. decor could use some help, but food is great, so is the service..

on, i think, tuesdays, melt does a prix fixe special menu. it was really good the time we tried it. it's based on what ingredients are available and what the chef feels like trying that week, and it seemed to us more interesting than the regular menu.

I just noticed that Fifth Avenue Café is now called Fifth Avenue Diner Restaurant. It's that brown-looking diner between 8th & 9th Sts. I thought maybe people aren't commenting on this place because they don't know what it is.

I agree! I love PSAH. The turkey club is fantastic -- turkey, brie, green apples, bacon and some kind of of delicious herb mayo. I want one now.
