to cassahyoko: yea...he tried to hold me there, and was spewing obscenities at me as I tried to remove myself from the situation. He scared my kid away from any bike riding (in general) for weeks.

Hill of Death? Is that on the main road/trail that goes around on the inside of the park? Or is there some side trail I have to take?

It's on the east side, outer road. Can't miss it. Can't get over it, either!

Kidding- yea, so if you enter via GAP and go to the right, you'll have a lovely serene ride (counter-clockwise) until you reach THE HILL OF (cough cough) DEATH!

    Fucking HATE that hill....

The steepest hill in Manhattan I know of is 138th street between 12th ave and Broadway. A mere 0.2 miles, but it has maybe a 12% grade.

I used to live on that very block! Had a 3 bedroom, 6 room rent-controlled apartment for $106/month. Hot and cold running roaches in the kitchen and bathroom, garbage being dumped out the windows from the floors above, passing by our windows whenever we looked outside.

In two years of parking a completely unprotected convertible on that block, the worst thing that ever happened to it was a flat tire from broken glass in the street.

It is a pretty steep grade.

Even as a driver people who do that drive me nuts.
    Just yesterday
I pull up to a red light on 5th ave , needing to make a right.
Being fully aware of the bike lane, i did not move all the way to the right
as this would block it and force bikers to the center of the road.
    Signal ON.

i was more then just annoyed when some dickwad zoomed up on me,
decided he wanted to get in front of me, and promptly moved all the way to the right and squeezed in between .
Being somewhat pissy at the time I quick cut him off,
rolled down my window and shouted,
I just want it to be perfectly clear what a complete asshole I think you are.

Of course when i got to 6th ave and had the light , i damn near hit a cyclist who went thru the red and was on the wrong side of the road to begin with.

    Bottom Line
ALL cars bikes and pedestrians need to stop being
    completely self absorbed assholes.
Youre not the only one on the road.
Driving a bike thru a red light the wrong way is stupid,
and running in front of a truck whose making a left isnt exactly a fucking genius move.

Lately, every time I see a bike rider going against traffic, running lights, etc. I want to shake them and say "do you know a rider was just killed". Likewise, everytime I see cars parked in the bike lanes on 5th Avenue I want to find a cop and ask why they don't get ticketed (isn't double parking illegal anyway) - think of all the revenue the city could make by enforcing the law!!!
And pedestrians...a bike can do damage...I know we all jaywalk in NY, but you wouldn't think of crossing against the light with a car coming at you...why do you do it with a bike?????
