South Slope coffee?

We're finally moving to South Slope this weekend and I'm looking for a good coffee rec. I'm totally in love with Gorilla, and have been known to sneak into Starbucks when I'm too lazy to walk to 5th Ave. Any good coffee south of 9th St (and preferably closer to 16th St)?

There's two places on 5th and 18th/19th: Has Beans on 18th and I can't remember the other one that is closer to 19th. There's a great place on 5th and 11th (very tiny- can't remember the name again). A new place just opened on 6th and 19th...again I have no memory of the name.

But, are any of them as good as Gorilla? No. Gorilla needs to open a South Slope store because the lines at the 5th Ave store are insane.

The coffee at Cafe Regular on 11th near 5th rules. Naidres on 7th between 11th and 12th is good, but not as good.

red horse on 12th/6th is good.

postoralia, are you talking about that nice new-ish place on 6th around 18th that's owned by the two young guys? good coffee, fun conversation

i usually end up at connecticut muffin. it has no character, but the coffee is good and they have free wireless and very fattening but yummy snacks.

    brooklynpotter,

Yes, that's the place. Their logo is two shoes hanging over a telephone wire.

And Red Horse- that's a nice place (except for their music choices...I refuse to patronize places that play Dave Mathews)

i don't know why walking down to 5th seems like a hike when i want coffee, but it does.

i wish ladybird had more then 2 seats.

Actually, that old dollar store that went out of business on 5th and 16th is being renovated into a coffee shop (it's right next to Monk resale).

Welcome! Red Horse is good. Unfortunately, it's more crowded now that the Tea Lounge has closed. In the opposite direction there is nice little place on 18th and 6th right across the street from the playground, it's a little hipster but they have good coffee. (On edit, I see that this spot has already been mentioned!)

South Slope has a perfect coffee place in Cafe Regular. They serve La Colombe and, despite it being pretty tight, the place has a lot of character.

    Parco - 7th between 14 and 15.

They serve La Colombe and they have killer croissants of every stripe.

Here's another vote for cafe regular! If it were closer to me I'd be there 5 times a day!

Cafe Regular is great...it's like a little bit of Paris inside that tiny space.

The name of the place at 6th Ave. & 19th Street is Southside Coffee. I love that place. (I have no affiliation, I just live nearby and go there. All. the. time.) Nice atmosphere, friendly guys run the place.

do they have rice krispy treats there?

You know, I don't really know if they have rice krispy treats or not. I try to avert my eyes from the sweets because I'm trying to steer clear of those things. (If I don't look at the sweets, then they're not really there!)

That said, I do know they have awesome pan au chocolats and cheddar herb biscuits. They get their pastries from a local bakery- I forget the name, but I think one of the guys told me its located around 5th or 6th Ave. & Union.

the guys in there are cute. (if my boyfriend is reading this not to worry, you're the only bigguy for me)

Brooklynpotter, I agree- the guys that run the place are dreamy! And they know their stuff.

If my boyfriend is reading this, he already knows how I feel about the guys there. If the guys from Southside are reading this, well, now they know too. Now I'm blushing over here....

Wow - I had no idea there were choices. I always forget that there are commercial establishments on 6th Ave in South Slope... I'll have to check out Red Horse. The 18th St place sounds good too... hot men always draw me in. :) Now, the real question: how many of these places will be able to accommodate my (wait for it...) double stroller?

and you can hear a pin drop in the room...

i don't know, because i don't have a stroller. and even if i did, i doubt my cat would be happy in it.

call the southside guys, they're pretty friendly. and cute.

At Southside, I've seen people park their strollers outside the door, but inside the fenced/gate area without many problems. I can't really speak to taking a stroller inside because I don't have one. That said, the place is relatively small; I've been in there with myself and a laptop bag and felt cramped, but I suspect that's more because I feel awkward in small spaces.

all of the places listed that I have been in are not stroller friendly

    Southside, Naidres, Red Horse....... etc.

Dub Pies isn't either, but I like their coffe most of the time.

I used to get Mochas at Parco before I swore off of them. They were really good, but is a Columbian place and they do use powdered coffee.

6th Ave and 20th St. It's called South Side. And yes, it has the logo of the shoes over the wire. Awesome coffee. And the toy taxicab on the counter belongs to my bf.

If you are near PPW, the coffee/espresso drinks at Dub Pies = yummmmy. The pies are good too and everyone that works there is really cool. But if you're looking to hang out the seating is limited... maybe 3 tables/6 chairs inside.

I have to check out Dub Pies....I was at a festival in the Cloisters and they were there. And they were awesome. I crave.
