Reaching Breaking Point Over the Park Slope PC Police

To the guy who tried to have an angry showdown with me in (empty) Prospect Park earlier this evening over my (gentle) dog romping off the leash enjoying the new fallen snow--I didn't walk away from you because I was scared or because I didn't hear you, I walked away to prevent myself from going drill sergeant on your ass and to prevent you from perhaps getting yourself hurt. I have reached a point of zero tolerance with those individuals residing in this neighborhood who feel that they have carte blanche to open their mouth in a disrespectful manner to anyone and everyone in public, whenever they deem it necessary. Unless you have a badge, I would advise you to keep your thoughts to yourself, since the next person you decide to open your mouth to may not possess the same self-restraint that I do.

You're just asking for assholes to assume they have the right to say anything to you when you have your dog off leash before 9 PM. They automatically assume they have the right to a citizen's arrest.

It's just amazing how much free time and energy some individuals have, especially in modern-day Park Slope. If I were to create a list of confrontations I've had with Park Slope residents in the past couple of years alone, it would read like a "What's What" of some of the most idiotic scenarios imaginable--e.g. some tool calling me out for placing a piece of litter in his curbside-placed trash can, soccer moms outright stealing parking spaces, etc. I really feel like a lot of these people, oblivious to the ways of basic urban life, have brought their suburban "Lawn Nazi" mentalities with them when they relocated here.

HA! I had someone yell at me for putting my dog's poop bag in the garbage I'd just put out on the curb. It was MY fucking garbage bag!

Why don't you just follow the law. A lot a people are tired of stepping in shit. Prospect Park is not your lawn.

Just sayin' is all - but sometimes it is not fun to have a "surprise" off-leash dog approach me or my small dogs (who are on their leashes) before 9PM and after 9AM.

There shouldn't be room in any of our lives for anger and/or disrespect, but we fought hard to have the the most lenient off-leash park policy in NYC. I don't think it is "assholish" to suggest that people abide by the rules - because if enough people chose to disregard them, we'd lose the privileges we now have.

Dogs must be On Leash (6ft or less) in all places, at all times between 9am - 9pm

All other times dogs may be Off Leash in the Long Meadow, the Nethermead, and the Peninsula. 9 at night until 9 in the morning.

I, for one, thank and admire people for sticking to the above rules.

No, it is nobody's lawn. It is a public place governed by laws. Would it be ok to drive in the Park, because nobody was around?

Yeah, well a lot of people who have been here for a very long time are tired of wading through the Park Slope PC Police's bullshit. Unless I'm somehow infringing upon your civil liberties and depriving you of your ability to enjoy the park, then whether I'm breaking the law is none of your business. You're not a law enforcement official. Worry about your own business and keep your thoughts to yourself.

This isn't about moral judgments, or what's "ok" to do. The law is the law; my point was that certain individuals in this area who get a kick out of opening their mouths to people they don't know may find that their luck only runs so far. Being disrespectful to a stranger in a dark empty park is not the smartest course of action for anyone, let alone someone living in a Park Slope bubble who could very quickly find themselves in a situation they didn't anticipate. That's all I was saying. But hey, if you feel the stakes are that high and the risk is worth taking, then you do what you feel you need to do.

...fear of swirlies, combined with the fact that I could not catch, led me to avoid jocks.

...but I'm totally diffferent now. ....not.

P.S. Now I'm a bully and tell people to put their dog on lease.
