Whats the big deal about Aunt Suzies?
hitokiri
It's always packed and they show a "cheap" (they labeled it themselves) menu and its supposed to be an italian place, so I tried it out. I normally eat at La Villa, but I didnt even know Aunt Suzies was italian.
Even when I walked in, there was nothing that said Italian to me (especially the sex in the city movie they had playing) Is that even appropriate? There was a kid in there.
So I ordered the tortellini dish and my girlfriend ordered the gnocchi. Neither had any taste to it. As bland as bland could be. Service was pretty bad and they didnt seem to have a manager controlling anything. Service was long and it took forever to get the check. I was close to just walking out.
Does money talk in this instance? Do people go because the place is cheap despite having lack luster food and service?

longtimesloperMy take on it also, very generic bland out of the jar sauce -
meredithbthey like kids, that's about it. -

..... in what way, seeing as they were showing sex in the city! lol -
meredithbOh well I haven't been there is years but that was always their big draw. I don't have kids and like good food hence the reason why I haven't been in years. -
longtimesloperIt's cheap and has been around forever, i think that is the big draw. i do have kids and we still don't go there, the food is blech!
meredith, I sent you a PM, did you get it? -
j0518It's cheap, decent, and been around forever. This is in contrast to Mangia, which is packed, cheap, and mostly terrible.
I haven't been to Aunt Suzie's in years at this point. I thought it was a pretty decent red sauce joint, and loved that they put a bottle of Sambuca at your table to pour into your espresso to your desire. That being said, the fact that I probably walk by it three or four times a week and haven't eaten there in years says something as well. -
the chipsterEven though La Villla might have better food, I gotta say, I've never been there! Aunt Suzies, which I used to go to with my family, always had that old school feeling; and by that, I mean Park Slope Italian Lesbian:)
TV? I'm disappointed in them. The food? It's always been mediocre; as stated, it's a "red sauce" place. Not gourmet.
But still cheap! And even though I don't go there these days, just reading this thread makes me think of them closing--and that I would HATE to see. Yeah, I am guilty of walking by too. Maybe I should reconsider where I'm spending my money:( -
longtimesloperBeing Italian, I LOVE red sauce places, nothing wrong with that, but, sheesh, make the red sauce tasty!!! -

Not all of Italy is about red sauces. Red sauces = Italian-American. -
longtimesloperWhere did I say ALL of italy has red sauces? For crying out loud, people have to pick everything apart!
It is not just italian-american, there are places in Italy that do red sauces, no, not all of Italy you PITA, but, yeah parts of it. Sheesh -
tybur6I do an awesome red sauce... and I'm "english-american" -

danny hellmanI just read that the owner of Aunt Suzie's opposes the bike lane on Fifth Ave. I ride a bike, I've eaten at the restaurant a few times and enjoyed it, but I'll never eat there again. I hope other bicyclists will think carefully before they spend money in that establishment. -

and because of that I will go there. Something for everyone. -
peanutsFunny - I would NEVER ride my bike on 5th avenue...the whole bike lane on 5th is a joke -
8thandprezThe bike lane on 5th would have been better located between the sidewalk and parked cars, Amsterdam-style.
-
booklawThat's true. But you know that Brooklyn pedestrians would claim the bike lane as their own. -
peanutsYup...they claim the Ocean Parkway bike lane as their own...but I'd rather deal with pedestrians than cars/buses/trucks -
j0518I'm boycotting all bike riders for never obeying the rules of traffic and almost running right over me about five times a day in Park Slope.
My opinion of Aunt Suzie's remains the same as it was on 4/16. -

How do you boycot a bike rider? -
booklawYou don't sleep with or even date them! -
peanutsI know that there are plenty of bike riders that run lights, ride on the wrong side of the street, etc. BUT...there's been many a time I'm riding my bike, I have the green light... and a pedestrian walks right in front of me as if a bike can't do any damage... -

What about blowjobs?
I mean, if we are going off topic then I'd like an answer.
