As an aside, I'm sure people are curious of the price point- from my recollection apps were in the $6-10 range with main courses around $12-17. Desserts were around $5. I found it to be reasonable considering the upscale feel of the place.

    Don't quote me on this.

Also Flexi has a nice picture of the dish that we had, a farmers cheese taco with mole (right, flexi?) Maybe if we're all really nice she'll post it.

I'm having major tech challenges at the moment. If I don't throw two laptops out the window, I will try to post it later

Went to Fonda last night with the hubbs and another couple. In short, it was delicious. One of the best meals I've had in the Slope. No, THE best meal I've had in the Slope.

We started with cocktails. I had the tamarindo margarita, which was superb. Husband had the michelada: beer of choice with lime juice and hot sauce. Like a carbonated bloody mary... really interesting and good. They comped us a free guava margarita, which was really good and really nice of them.

Appetizers: we had the guac, which was super fresh and excellent. Love the mini-tortillas they provide. The farmer cheese tacos were good, but could have used a little warming up (they were slammed busy while we were there). The duck appetizer: can't comment bc I don't do duck, but others said it was very nice. The chorizo appetizier was the real winner. It's actually a queso fundido (baked, melted cheese) with chorizo on top, but the cheeses were insanely good and the chorizo was perfect. They also comped us two of the apps... I guess bc the kitchen was so busy.

Entree: I had the pork adobo, which comes in a really nice mole sauce. The pickled onion and carrots on top really made the dish.

Desserts: we had the sampler, which allows you to try 3 difft desserts for $11. Chocolate pudding, brownies with cajeta and tequila whipped cream both delicious. The pineapple dessert, however, knocked it out of the park.

Everyone was really gracious and friendly without being overbearing. It's a good sign that the place was packed the entire time we were there. So happy to have this place so close. Go South Slope!

I went last night with my wife and we were really hoping for a great meal. I had a whole scathing review all typed up and ready to blast, but I've decided to just post my favorite quote that has ever been said to me at a restaurant....

"The chef is really embarrassed and will not come over, we would like to pay for that meal and we hope that you will come back.”

I was there last night, too. Didn't have the same experience as PuckBrooklyn, however. Place was really crowded and service was slow but the food was quite good.

"Fonda" means inn or tavern in Spanish. I think it's a great name - simple and lovely if pronounced correctly. It may also be inspired by La Fonda del Recuerdo, one of the great Mexico City restaurants that preserves the best of traditional cooking. If that is an inspiration, then the place has a lot to live up to! I'm looking forward to it; the owner was earlier involved at Rosa Mexicano, which was one of the first restaurants to bring upscale traditional Mexican cuisine to NY.

I cant wait to eat here!!!

Hopefully they will iron out any kinks as time goes on. How exciting! There is no good Mexican food in South Slope so I have very high hopes.

Visited Fonda for a margarita and some guacamole. While both of those were very good, my husband's Sol was $ 9.00! Give me a break! I buy a 12 pack of Sol for $12.00! That price is way out of line.

Went Thursday night. Enjoyed it very much. Service was a little clunky, but not bad for a place that just opened up. Very friendly, though. Had the farmer's cheese app which was good, but would have liked it heated up a bit more (like a previous commenter here). Ordered the Marco Pollo chicken dish, but they were out of it fairly early in the evening. Oh well, next time. Went with the two enchilada dishes (shrimp and chicken). Both were excellent. My wife preferred the chicken, but I thought the shrimp, with a hazelnut mole sauce, was extraordinary. Very unique and tasty. Have a hard time believing a Sol was $9 because the house special hibiscus margarita was only $8.

Yikes. A "fonda" is a casual, inexpensive restaurant in Latin countries (think El Gran Castillo de Jagua). 9 bucks for a beer is deffo not fonda pricing.

Went there, wasn't impressed by the menu. No real vegetarian options. The food we ended up ordering was Meh. Maybe they will improve over time. I hope so because it's less than a block from my apt!

As a veg (lacto-ovo) who wants to try the place - how lacking were the veg options? What did you wind up eating?

We had some type of enchilada and asked them to hold the chicken and add blackbeans and spinach, which they did but there is not really ANY main course on the menu (unless you eat fish) that a veg could eat as-is.
