We went Saturday night. Food was good, drinks average, and the service while friendly was really really slow that night.

After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before anyone came to our table to bring water or take orders. We ordered drinks and an app. Waited a while for that. Got and finished drinks and app (maybe 30-40 more minutes had passed) and finally a server came back to take our dinner order. It then took a while to get the food, which was good. They were at least very friendly so that with the food means we'll be back. I'm guessing that it will just take them a while to work out the kinks on crowded night (and it was packed).

We weren't in a hurry, but with people waiting for tables I would think they might try to turn tables over at a decent rate.

Just came back from dinner. Food was pretty good.

Appetizers = guacamole (we chose spicy, which I would consider "medium") and chorizo with cheese (tasty).

Entrees - enchiladas suizas (me....pretty good), shrimp enchiladas (him - tasty and unique with a hazelnut mole).

Service was fine - friendly and attentive.

What I did not like at all was that they had 2 girls/women in little red dresses promoting some sort of tequila - they gave us a margarita (blech). I think Fonda is a nice enough restaurant that they don't need the equivalent of "shot girls"in tiny dresses handing out free drinks.

Oh, and to the 3 people who brought their obnoxious 2-3 year old in - your kid is NOT nearly as cute as you think she is...especially at 8pm when she's screaming her head off and you are not doing anything to control her.

I'll go back for sure.....but they should lose the tacky promotion(s).

Flexi.. it sounds like the place is worth a second visit.

I am trying to determine how early I have to eat in PS restaurants to avoid the kids. nThis will be my own little survey.

And this reply is from someone who made dinner for 5 adults while trying to create a civilized atmosphere in the house with a 3 1/2 year old and 6th month old in attendance. Yes, I did make it work but be damned if I pay bucks to eat out and am disturbed by someone elese's little rug rats!!!

I got there at 7 and we were probably the first or second table there (although there might have been people in the backyard...I didn't check). There were a few people at the bar. By 8 or 8:30, it seemed like almost every table was full. The people with the kid showed up around 8. Dinner for 2 was $90. For that price, at/after 8pm, I expect that any kids who are in the restaurant are well-behaved on their parents are marching them right outside. The kid was shrieking and jumping up and down in their booster chair. Not cool.

Not cool at all. I'm sorry to hear that some parents are raising their kids in barns and occasionally taking their kids out of the barns and into restaurants. If the kids had painfully choked and dropped dead at their table and you had been able to enjoy your $45 meal, was it wort it?

On another topic, I wish I was a kid today -- I would be able to go wild in restaurants after my bedtime...and watch TV shows with more interesting bad words than "hell" and "damn."

The kid shut up after a while, but I really was surprised/disappointed by the promo girls. When I am eating a (nice) meal in a restaurant, I don't expect somebody to come up in matching little dresses with titties all propped up to see if I want to try their new tequila. Maybe if I'm in a bar. A shitty bar.

If I am in there again (I would go back for the food) and the opportunity presents itself, I will voice that feedback to management..

Are you sure you weren't really on spring break at Senior Frogs in Cancun?

Better watch the beans -- a lot of places put pork in their overpriced beans. There's nothing more annoying than pricey American Mexican restaurants that charge you $19 for a can of .79 cent beans they heated up. The best, freshest vegetarian Mexican food is prepared right at your table in Mexican restaurants in Mexico. In Park Slope, I happily tolerate Mezcal's, but can't think of any amazing vegetarian options on their menu.

Come to think of it, why would you take your kids to a place with shot girls?

Maybe Fonda should change its name to Tijuana?

Hopefully it was a one time deal due to some partnership with the booze distributor.

The wife and I ate there Tuesday night sans loin fruit and we had a great meal. Agree with Flexi about the guac - the spicy was not really so spicy, but it was tasty. I had the pork dish which was a huge portion. The shrimp enchilladas with mole were very good, if a bit over sauced. As an aside - we ate outside and next to us was a couple with a 2 year old in a high chair. The kid was the best behaved child I have ever seen - even better than my own. And he was as cute as his parents thought ;-)

FWIW, we've been there twice (w/o the kids) and haven't seen shot girls. Strange indeed, but must have been some kind of promotion. Weren't they just participating in Mexican Restaurant Week? (no, I'm not kidding... they have/had a sign in the window) It could have been something to do with that event.

I love Fonda and I'm so happy to see that it is seriously packed every night. There were even people waiting for tables on a Tuesday last week. I wish them all the best, esp since we need some new, good blood down here in South Slope.

I don't know if it was a one-time promotion (I hope so), and while they weren't the typical "shot girls" (think holsters and tequila bottles), I thought it was very out of place and awkward. The only people I expect to come to the table and interrupt conversation are either servers or management. On top of that, the margarita they served sucked (so I bought another "real" one instead).

Again, food was good (agree that shrimp enchiladas were oversauced, but tasty) and I'll go back...

I am also very happy to have them here and am glad they have had a decent crowd going every time I've been by.

Should be the other way around - kids early, adults later. That's what I always shoot for - try to clear out as early as possible so the grown-ups can have a nice evening out. Same with Brunch - try to get there right when they open so we'll be out of the place by the time the post-coital crowd wakes up and stumbles in.

(except for Diners, which are like bus stations - no rules)

Finally went last night. Had two special margaritas including a yummy tamarind one. Small though- I like booze. Both had soups- tortilla and a special crab one- and they did it all high styke with dry ingredients in the bowl and the broth poured out over at the table. Deeeeelicious! I had a duck enchilada app and she had a gigantic mound of pork something. It was all really good and the service was great. Cute too. But pricey. Date was a little pissed to be spending over $50 on dinner on a Wednesday.

You think 50.00+ for dinner w/drinks ( in park slope) is a lot? We spent more than that for brunch.

I don't- she does.and it was $50 just for her. If you're telling me you spend $50 per person for eggs that is insane!
