Subject: Slope's Bistro open

Looks like the somewhat awkwardly-named Slope's Bistro on 6th Ave and 14th St is now open for business. Contrary to the name and terrifyingly bad logo/signage on the side of the building, the interior looks pretty nice... typical dark-wood bistro style. Haven't been yet but will try to take a gander at the menu this afternoon.

yah, that signage is all kinds of ugly. Am curious about menu/prices. Please report back :-)

I have the worst memory ever but I peeked at the menu last night and think I saw pasta dishes for $10-13... The rest of the menu was like salads/apps and meat-focused entrees (i.e., the menu was separated into sections based on the type of meat therein, maybe 4-5 dishes of each) from like $12-$20.

The menu seemed a bit...not distinctive.

But I do second that the place looks a lot nicer than I expected from the look of those primary color block lettering on white signs.

the first southsloper who goes and reports back gets penny drinks at Ellis. Are they still doing that?

Haven't had a chance to swing by again, out of town for a few weeks. Still, pastoralia's report doesn't sound good...

I drove by the other night and saw one lonely waitress trying to make herself busy and what looked to be the family who owns the place sitting in front - either trying to look like customers or just staring off into space. Looked sad.

I'm going to try to keep an open mind until I try it.

I even gave Burrito Bar and Kitchen 4 or 5 tries before writing it off completely.

no one has gone yet? I would go tonight... but need a BYOB place...

May be too late now, but..... It is definitely BYOB right now as per a sign I saw yesterday that reads it is BYOB until they get their liquor llicense! I predict that the table linens are the first thing to go, but their prices seem reasonable. I saw a couple eating huge bowls of pasta outside yesterday and almost asked them how it was. Let us know!

Crap! I would have loved to check it out... but we went to Olive Vine instead. It was, of course, great!

So the question of quality of the place will continue.

So has anyone tried out this place? I saw two customers in it for the first time yesterday. . .

I really want to grab the owner by the collar and shake him and say "Your menu is boring! That's why nobody is coming!"

ok, I was going to try this tonight, but after looking at the takeout menu, the sheer number of typos on it made me scared that if they are this sloppy with the menu, what happens in the kitchen. Especially the bottom spaghetti dish...

Lol. that says Spaghetti "Bowl-O-Grease". Someone should send that to Jay Leno.

I'm ok with some mistakes if English is not your first language, but this menu is hysterical because words change like "rissto" becomes "risotto" in the same dish description.

I wonder if I can get prosouto voungale

I like the tendency for these types of menus to randomly capitalize things. "Sauteed with Fresh Garlic" for example....

I do feel bad for them. The only people in there when I went were the wait staff, which, at that moment, were only spanish speaking. We walked in during the rain looking for a drink, but the bar had no drinks? It was awkward for all around. The owners clearly don't "get" the Park Slope vibe, and I fear are driving people away despite their best intentions.
I took a menu anyway, it seems like they do alot of take out. If they only hired a few unemployed pierced hipsters, I think PS would be able to overlook the shortcomings. And I mean that in a good way, believe it or not. It was just too awkward between us gringos and the well meaning staff.
They need folks with people skills; tattooed or not.

The problem is the menu is just meh. Trying to do too much stuff. Also, you know it is all frozen because they aren't doing the turnover to have them sustain fresh ingredients. If they cut the menu down by 70%, did some great burgers, wings, a pasta or two and a few other dishes, they could do well.

oh, and a beer/wine license would help. lol

^they also need a new sign, somebody to proof their menu, and to have some friends/family eat near the windows so it doesn't look so pathetically empty

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

So, has anyone actually, um, EATEN here? I can't bring myself to walk in... the wait staff loitering near the front door make me too uncomfortable. I've only ever seen one person in the place and she was eating alone. Now THAT must have been an awkward meal.

Is it still byob? If yes we could have quite a cheap party even ordering one of everything!

I actually think we should totally do this. I feel bad for them and despite their menu's utter lack of appeal to me, would hate to see a business so close to my apt close.

While out for a walk last night, we saw at least 4 tables in use by folks around 8.
