from OTBKB:

Laytner's Linen and Home Coming to Union Street in Park Slope.

I just walked past the long-vacant 784 Union St. building between 6th and 7th Aves. For the last few days, workers had been in and out of the building, and today they unveiled a sign proclaiming the next tenant. Park Slope is getting its very own Laytner's Linen and Home.

No more trips up to the Upper West Side for comfy if expensive sheets. Thought you could use this on OTBKB.

i think better, lts. not as huge as bed bath and beyond, but better quality i'd say. and not super expensive. the one on the uws has some really great bedding and they are always have really great sales...

    Seriously. It's about time.

Laytners Linens and Home sounds like a great idea! Where else in the neighborhood can you get good quality bedding (400+ count), bathroom supplies, and more? Tarzian is the only place I can think of, and they are more of a hardware store than a place I would buy shower curtains (yes, I know they have them, ...but have you seen them? thanks, but I'll pass).

Who else out there has a good idea for the neighborhood? Please, speak up! Maybe someone will hear you, and we'll get that video/skeeball arcade&bar that I so desperately want!!

...and no, I'm not traveling to Billyburg to get it.

    Exactly.

The neighborhood is completely busy enough for a place that would sell items by the lb.

    ...salads, chinese, Indian food, etc.

Something at the level of Whole Foods in Union Sq, or Manna's in Harlem.

Whether it focused on healthy food or fried food ...it would do well.

I like Tarzian West, I would not consider them a hardware store at all. Yeah, maybe they have a smallish selection of shower curtains, and no sheets, but they are pretty good for housewares and kitchen gadgets and the like, which i think is their main focus anyway.,

Anyway, this new place sounds like a nice spot for sheets and towels, which are impossible to come by in this neighborhood

If they have extra long shower curtain liners (in clear) I'll be sold. No shops in the city that usually carry them have had any lately. It seems like a niche that's not really filled in the area so I'm excited to see what they have.

Subject: Laytner's Linen & Home Grand Opening on Union Street!

Laytner's Linen has opened on Union Street between 6th and 7th. The prices are great and the quality of the stuff is great. They say they are getting much more in throughout the month. Hurray no need for "big box' stores. Now we have a local place in the Slope :D

went-in on their opening day, friday, and was very impressed. first of all, who knew that space was so huge?.. and their stock is quite extensive (they even have furniture), and the manager says they'll be expanding the selection even more. this store is exactly what the slope has needed for years.

I am gonna check this place out but it will be hard to let go of my habit of Century 21 in Brooklyn, that has a separate home store and great prices on very decent linens and things. Last Fall I did a run to Ikea and bought duvet covers and sheets that I am still really happy with.

Kind of thinking Layner's Linen is a place I would shop for a gift for someone if I was lucky enough to get an invite to someone's country house.

Not to mention a good Chinese and a good Vietnamese place to eat less than a block away!

Still I think Laytner's will have a better selection for quality stuff.

went to check it out last night...it's REALLY great to have this in the slope.

i used to shop for linens at century 21, but honestly i prefer laytners now. plus when you want to go pick up a couple new pillows or a new mattress cover or something, it's so nice to be able to have a place IN the neighborhood instead of schlepping that stuff on the subway.

go check it out...cool what they've done to that space...i think this will be a huge hit in the neighborhood.

they said they are not finished stocking the place yet and will be getting more and more stuff in over the next few weeks.

they are open till 7:30 on weekdays...

They sell more than just sheets and linens, right? From their website it looks like they sell household goods also.
  • belzjm
    belzjm
yes, they sell pretty much anything bed and bath related, household goods, some furniture, curtains, etc...

Christmas is coming.... I just bet you've been a good little girl... hope they can fit all those senseless points of consumption under ur tree..

I mean beard papa and an arcade.....really? Really?

Finally, since I haven't been uncouth quite enough... "a good indian place"? WTF is good? Ghandi in a low cut dress bringing you a $.50 plate of chicken curry that could feed a family of four? Are you really saying that you wouldn't be pissing all over whatever place moved in at the first chance you get?

This board lives to be dissatisfied.

    I'm amused.

If you check belzjm's posting history, you'll see that could not be more untrue about him/her. S/he is one of the biggest neighborhood boosters around, and is rarely critical of anyplace.

I went to Laytner's yesterday - loved it. Owner was there and is a really nice guy - staff very helpful. Prices are good - I love having a place in the neighborhood where I can get my linens.

What is DR's schtick? I don't understand what angle it is taking when it posts. I see that it has some supporters/friends but it certainly isn't from any positive contribution to this forum. Am I missing something?

    I couldn't agree more!
