^thank you, Domino. Aside from tech help, this is one of the few helpful solutions on this thread.

Still hoping somebody can figure out what's going wrong.

Okay, so let's review, for those with short attention spans -

Wall >>> cable modem >>> router/wireless access point >>> PC (hardwired)

So, all of this is working? And the Roku works hardwired? Did you try the wireless with all of the security off (no password)?
  • joestrip

    ^thank you WiFi.

Yes, all>>modem>>>to router>>>to desktop (hardwired). All working (after I cloned the MAC address per Jack's suggestion). It's a 4 port router, so after some trial and erro, I also have the Roku box hardwired.

However, Roku box will not work wirelessly (error says to make sure that modem/router is not blocking access) and laptop won't connect (says "limited or no connection"). I do see the Flexi network broadcasing with a good signal strength, but can't get anything to connect to it wirelessly.

I do have a password, but I know what it is, and have entered it to no avail. I do not want an unsecured network.

For shits and giggles, try it unsecured for a minute or two.

Also, when you scan the available networks, are there a lot around? Can you change to a less trafficked channel (1,6 or 11)?

WhyFi - I will try removing the password in a bit. I don't see a lot of networks so I'd be surprised if the channel was overloaded

Ok, I tried removing the password and connecting again thru laptop, but no luck

Obviously, something is wrong somewhere; with all the poking around, in an effort to get it running, it's going to be even harder to find... this is the point where, frustrated, I would reset the router to factory settings, usually pushing/holding a recessed button on the back. Start from scratch, no security, get everything to connect, then pop on a password or whatever else you'd like.

Are you calling the encryption key the password?

Try going into the wireless setup for the router and changing the SSID, that's what you see when your laptop scans for available networks. and turning off encryption then see if you can connect.

Try to delete any unused connection. From the Start menu go to "Connect To" Then "show all connections" Right click the wireless connection, go to the wireless networks tab. Delete the network SSID you've been trying to connect to Then you can rescan and try adding it again

Thanks guys. WhiFi, I did reset to factory settings - twice.

Jack - those are probably good suggestions, but I gave up and unplugged everything because I am going home. I will save this thread for when I come here again

    Did you delete the profile?

What happens? What error messages do you get?

When you scan form available networks do you see yours?

Can you connect but just not get an IP address?

What is the error message you get?

Where did you remove the password from?

ahahaha. Just pretend like Flexi isn't talking, Jack - we all do. :D

Sorry I missed the drama, but I'm pretty sure my solution of smacking the router a few times wouldn't have helped much.
