Sidecar? New bar in south slope?

Hey all, I was running around in the rain this weekend looking for a hardware store when I saw a place, I believe between 16-17th street on 5th ave called sidecar. There is still paper in the windows but I like what I saw and I've been waiting for a classy bar to open up in the area. Is this what this is? Does anyone know the deal? Thanks!

I've been watching that space for a while and can't notice any progress in the construction......

I heard a rumor that its going to be a bar/restaurant involving the guys who run O'Connors and the Blue Ribbon people.

Really? Which side of the street? I lived there until recently and don't remember seeing anything. Do you mean b/w 16 and Prospect, or is there a 17th street?

West side of the street, next door to the Domino's pizza, between 15th and 16th

Sidecar is owned by Bart Dicoursi and his brother. Bart formerly worked at OC's. He's a great guy that knows the biz inside and out. Knowing Bart, the bar will be nothing less than top notch.

Sidecar will open really soon. Construction's been done for a long time — it's been a matter of permit approvals/bureaucracy. The inside is really comfortable, with some nice space by the front windows, and lots of cozy booths, and good-looking brick. Bart and John have put a ton of work into it. They're of course really eager to open, but stuff just takes a long time with the City, apparently.

It'll be open for dinner (burgers, americana, and some fancy stuff and vegetarian options) and bar-time. I'm really looking forward to it myself. (And if you've had Bart's cocktails at O'Connor's before, well, the man can make a sidecar.)

A friend told me that it is scheduled to open this Tuesday, but without a liquor license. No liquor license until next month? Ouch! It's got "bar" in the name!

So they'll have food but no drinks yet?
    BYOB?? at a bar

Yeah, that's right. Sidecar opens for dinner on Tuesday, July 10. Of course, they'd rather open with their liquor license, but being open for food is better than not being open at all. And the bar will come along soon.

Menu currently includes cheeseburgers, vietnamese sandwiches, steak, salmon, veggie soft tacos, salad, bean dip, and the like. And beer/wine/cocktails soon enough.

Sidecar finally got its liquor license this week, and of course they're still serving food, just now staying open late. With BEER. And sidecars.

Try the hand drier in the bathroom. You can see your skeleton. It's kind of creepy.

I changed my mind on this place. I LOVE it! Great staff, and after my horrid experience at Vin Rouge, walking into this beautiful space was a godsend. YAY!!

Who knew. Thanks for the info. I have an out of town guest coming in Oct and this sounds perfect.

The Chipster? What was wrong w/Vin Rouge? I saw a mention of this along with Sidecar and made a note to check it out.

I am gonna sound like a party pooper here but.. We walked in and out fri night at about 9pm. We were gonna see a movie at the Pavillion and it seemed like a place that would be great for a lite meal and one drink before. The music was assaultingly loud.. would be ok if I was looking to drink and party and scream at the people I was trying to talk to but didn't work for me for a meal. Don't shoot be because I did a "drive by" and didn't eat or drink here and am still brazen enough to share my thoughts.

Actually, a few of my neighbors-- I live 2 1/2 blocks from the place in question--have complained about the service but attribute it to growing pains. I have yet to set foot in Sidecar so I have no opinion at this time. (Last weekend a bud and I were going to get a late lunch, mid-afternoon burger, but they weren't open 'til 6 PM.) Maybe this weekend...

I went there to try, finally, last weekend. They are really nice and the place was beautiful. The price looked a bit high for the area, apatizer nacho was like 7 dollers, draft beer was like 6 (I do not remember well), cuctail was 8 or 9 or something like that. Though the nacho salsa (made by white beans with cheese)was really good. They have draft beer with same hundle I had to ask them twice what was the choice. That was a bit trouble (why do they do that? To hide what they have?)

I went on Saturday night and really liked it. We had already had dinner (see Palo Santo thread), and were pretty wine-d up at that point. Very friendly owners and staff. Everybody came over to say hello. Had some wine (don't remember which) and picked at food that somebody else was eating.

I'll definitely be back to check it out again.

My husband and I went over the weekend and the food was really bad. The salmon was half cooked/half raw. The fried chicken was dry. The appetizers were just ok and the peach cobbler that someone on chowhound raved about was just awful. My cat could have prepared it better. It was just peaches floating in a dish with a little topping.

That said we loved the atmosphere, the bartender was great. He gave an excellent wine recommendation, the owner I assume was very nice and our waitress sweet and charming.

I wanted to try it out first before bringing an out of town guest and am glad we did. We will go back for drinks only.

i've had the burger, the vietnamese sandwich, and the club sandwich -- i've enjoyed them all. the way i figure, when i go to a bar/pub, i eat bar/pub food. as long as it's decent and the drinks are varied and tasty, i'm a fan.
