I'm a nurse, so I do wear them to work cause yes, they are extremely comfortable. However, I wouldn't wear them without scrubs, but I couldn't care less if others do.... Except the tye-dye swirly ones. They're a bit much

There are crocs that are closed and .. no holes. That is a popular style for nurses and doctors.. Think about an operating room where yuck might get on your feet.. don't want to be taking those shoes home.. wash them off.. perhaps sterilize them with disinfectant and put them in your locker for the next time..

As far as a chef running them through a dishwasher... I really doubt there are dishes in there and no kidding the temps those commercial dishwashers reach would sterilize anything!!

Being hip doesn't stop after age 30 or 40. Deborah Harry is proof.

    popular does not mean hip.
Agreed. To be "hip" is to be aware of the latest trends...or a homologous posterior part in quadrupeds.

Hey can you blame the dude?
Public people need to either shut their mouths on what they like or join in and cash in.

Look, the people you are after are the people you depend on. We cook your meals, we haul your trash, we connect your calls, we drive your ambulances. We guard you while you sleep. Do not... fuck with us.

    Officially unhip:

In part because I had a raging case of plantar fasciitis by the end of last summer from wearing flip-flops and in part because a friend can get them for me at cost, I've bought a few pairs of Earth shoes lately. While many of them are still ugly, they actually have quite a few cute designs nowadays. I want comfy shoes that are good for my feet, but I can only take that so far. Crocs? Bleah.

I'm not a fan of the classic clog crocs, but recently I've seen what I think are Crocs that just look like little rubber ballet-type shoes and those are cute. I also figured they made your feet sweat though.

I do love Danskos. I have the classic black leather closed-back clogs and wear them constantly in the cooler months. They are really comfy and I think they look plain enough to not be ugly, especially since most of the shoe is covered by my pants anyway. I also have a pair of Dansko sandals that don't look remotely like they are Dansko, they're very pretty. The heel is about 2 or 2.5 inches high, which is about as high as I can go. I have the worst feet in the world. There are definitely a lot of Dansko sandal styles that look like grandma shoes, but there are a few newer styles that just look like simple pretty sandals. Here's a link to what mine look like: http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/8236676/c/9889.html

Found them on ebay for less than half the price, awesome.

faycat... The crocs that look like ballet slippers are called "Mary Janes"... I have a pair in Lilac.. They are comfortable and honest the feet don't sweat and they provide great support (they mold to your foot so after afew wearings they are even more comfortable) but they have that wide crocs styling so they do not really look delicate.. but certainly a little more feminine thanthe unisex Beach model.

I own those Dansko Sandals and they are great. Of course I hit the link to Zappos and bought another pair of shoes.. Happy 4th everyone.

They're hideous in my opinion. I saw a lot of people wearing them in Florida last year and thought I would never see them in PS but then I forgot this is the crowd who wear birkenstocks.. another hideous shoe.

Little kids yes, anyone over 10 no.

    Straw hats?

It made me laugh out loud as a passed them. Hipsters?I think not. Hipsters wear those stupid small straw hats, converse all stars and skinny jeans.

Like I explained, many of the newer designs are surprisingly cute. And there's no need to be an asshat.

i love my birks but chucked them in the back of the closet when i moved here. nothing against lesbians, but i knew i'd be pegged for one if i were wearing them.

i have enough trouble attracting men, adding birks to the mix would not have been a good idea

Yeah lay off of Appolonia!!Even if that crack was meant as a joke.. wasn't funny and wasn't kind. Let's promote a kinder, gentler Park Slope no matter what shoes people shoose to wear.

Living in Park Slope means you get to wear ugly shoes. Crocs are just the latest expression of this proud tradition. :D

Living in New York has certainly driven home the importance of wearing shoes that are comfortable and good for my tootsies, that's for damn sure.

I have one pair of Birks I save only for days when my feet are really jacked up or I'm going to have to walk a LOT, 'cause they're fugly. The three pair of Earth sandals I have bear no resemblance to the Earth shoes of the 70's (although they do still carry some that are godawful-lookin') and garner a lot of compliments, followed usually by, "Those are Earth shoes? No way!"

Crocs, however, can in NO way ever be made cute. Just ain't possible.

i have to say, most comfortable shoes for being on your feet all day are cowboy boots. the real ones. i know that sounds crazy, but your toes doesn't even go near the pointy part, and they have awesome arch support.

back when i had a realy job, and i had to go to conventions and walk through miles of booths, etc., they were the only tolerable thing. more than sneakers.
