I think we should get a real pole on the internet, if it's not too late. I'll chip in. I'll pay for it. Festivus without a pole is like ... something without some other thing.

I think it's a little too late, since I doubt they can deliver the thing within 3 days. We could check Pintchik to see if they carry aluminum poles.

I'm going to call Wagner at festivuspoles tomorrow and see if they can do it 2-day shipping.

Since there have been so few responses and you feel so strongly about it, I'm inclined to want to get the pole.

This will be better than any office party, especially those hosted by tacky companies that give cheap pens and Hickory Farms Beef Sticks to vegetarian employees in lieu of holiday bonuses.

I would be perfectly happy to accept my annual bonus in the form of Hickory Farms Beef Sticks. But that's just me. If I were a vegetarian however, I might be a little pissed. They could at least have offered Tofurkey sticks or something.

OK it's gonna be close but I have a shiny festivus pole en route from festivuspoles.com. It's scheduled to arrive on the 21st. Keep you fingers crossed.

Should we ...like... tell Soda we want to bring a big pole to their place?

Whoo-hoo! Yeah, you're probably right we should warn them. Anyone going there in the next couple days? If not, I'll try to get there fairly early to stake out some seating, and I could mention it then.

Also, for the record, I'm planning to bring my camera since people liked the pictures from last year. We don't have a Brooklynian Flickr pool so they just end up in my photostream and the Prospect Heights pool, so it's not like "Here you are with your psycho internet friends!" But if anyone hates having their picture taken, just tell me. I'm not trying to drive people nuts with this.

RAH took a swig of hot candle wax and spit out a little globe... The fjords of Norway were particularly well rendered.

was that at festivus? I'm pretty sure I was drinking a steady stream of hot toddies at festivus last year and the RAH candlewax at Soda night was an evening when I was drinking a steady stream of cider.

Shit, you may be right, but it's still a good story...

and I like the fact that your memories are anchored in place by the type of drinks you were consuming that night! :P

Edit: you're right, but here's the pic anyway!

There have been more than one episode of the RAH candle-drinking feat. I believe that the first was from Festivus last year, but I took the picture above at Sepia several weeks later.

    no no no no no

the first candle event was at Sepia. at the table in the front.
you and I GOADED HER into the second candle event, which is the photo above. that photo was taken at Soda, near the rainbow wall, after a happy hour and NOT FESTIVUS.

she avoided candle drinking for the entirety of Festivus.

According to the UPS tracking, our Festivus pole arrived in Soprano Country (specifically, Secaucus) this morning. Should be on schedule for delivery tomorrow.

Gee, what a great place for the party....given that the owner, and this is according to alafairnadia, thinks we're all a bunch of whiners.

We should ALWAYS give him our business.

Pointer: call in your order ahead of time. Then, when you get there, make sure you ask the bartender to instruct the waitstaff to do their job.

I'm not going to Mooney's. and I can assure you that some other folks planning to attend this bash will not be happy to go there. it's a really lousy idea to change the place the day before the event, too. if you didn't want to go to Soda, you needed to speak up when we were discussing the place.
