it's great. BYO last time i was there.

It's still BYO, according to the sign. Don't mind that when there's a liquor store around the corner (order, then go and buy wine accordingly).

I love Kaz. Been going since it opened. And now, after this review, it will be even harder to get a table.

How long have they been opened? The space was empty last fall.

They only opened a couple months ago - Feb/March. The food, owners - all great. Such a wonderful addition to the neighb.

I've heard the food is very good, but my one experience there really showed that the owners were not expecting the attention they've recieved and are pretty overwhelmed.
Got there on a Saturday night at about 8:00 PM or so. Didn't have a problem waiting 45 minutes. Once we sat, they were literally out of more than half the menu, including any vegetarian options and the burger. Server was unwilling to throw together anything vegetarian for my wife, and his only reply was "you should have shown up earlier." We did. You made us wait and didn't warn us you were running out of food.
Perhaps the operation now matches the customer load and the kinks have been worked out. What I've heard about the food probably merits them another chance, but not for a long while. I still wish them well. Go on a weeknight. -
One thing I've learned from patronizing Caribbean restaurants for over two decades is to become familiar with the phrase: "We're out of that". It still annoys me, but I've largely accepted that it is what it is. I've talked to my Caribbean friends and co-workers and they say that it's cultural, namely that patrons are expected to be flexible and prepared to try whatever is fresh or available on any given day. This, of course, makes it difficult for the person with dietary restrictions or who had his/her heart set on a particular dish.

I hear ya, Jack Krohn, but this isn't trying to be a hole-in-the-wall kind of place. Customer service is customer service.
I just had a totally different experience at the grand opening of Fornino. We'd had some problems getting dinner Friday night, and decided to walk by there at 10:45 PM to see how late they opened. They let us know the kitchen was closed, which is completely fair but, then, unexpectedly offered us a discount for next time we come in. They totally didn't have to do that. We were the ones walking in fifteen minutes before closing. That's a new restaurant I'll go back more quickly to, not a place that makes me feel like it's my fault when they run out of food on weekend night with about 2 hours to go before closing. -
I agree. Actually, I eat Caribbean less often than I prefer due to these annoyances. But then the taste brings me back

Still, you make a good point that these are easily rectified problems. Most other restaurants manage to get it right.
