77th Precinct on Ticketing Spree
I was pulled over the other night "blowing a Stop sign" according to the officer and the 3 other patrolmen who got out of the car. The problem is, I stopped. They attempted to convince me that I ran the Stop sign.
I'm hearing rumors of this and other egregious "persuasion" happening.
Can anyone confirm?
Are these guys just trying to make their monthly #s?

I've been seeing tons of people getting pulled over all over BK. ENY to Greenpoint to our hood. I think it's a quota thang maybe.

but pulled over and accused of doing things they had not done?
is there some public record of this bad cop trend? -
Stop signs are taken by many Brooklyn motorists as just suggestions. Sit on the corner of Bergen and Grand for a few minutes and you'll see 90% of motorists barely slow down for the stop signs. Actually that goes for Grand/Pacific and Grand/Dean as well.
You must come to a full and complete stop at or immediately before a stop sign. If a stop line is marked on the pavement, that is where the motorist should come to a complete stop. Slowing down and rolling through is not stopping. Stopping after your vehicle is mostly past the sign is also not stopping. -
Subject: gotta love the stop signs
It sure is easy to blow through a stop sign in the neighborhood when usually you have to wait for those dreadful red lights that take forever!!! especially when I am drunk coming from from Manhattan!! LOL

um, i'm assuming you're joking, but i somehow feel less than "LOL".

I apologize. I did not correctly explain what I meant. Obviously if I am drunk coming from Manhattan, I am in a taxi! Who the hell drives to a bar when in NYC? thats what cabs are for!
I meant that I hate waiting at red lights in a taxi when I am drunk and just wanna get home. -

Weird you live on my block
I have learned the light patterns concerning Classon/Franklin/Atlantic/EP... it's fucked.
And I dunno about our neighborhood but I've been seeing people get pulled over elsewheere.... -
Cool, we live on the same block! Gotta love that. Funny, I have also memorized the lights too from Flatbush! I hate giving directions to the cab drivers though because you can't make a left onto Prospect Place so I say make the right onto 6th Avenue and then immediate left and straight through the lights. Is this the best way to go? I wish there was a simpler explanation.....

That doesn't sound like much of a "ticket spree", rather, you just got a ticket. If you believe you're innocent, then plead not guilty and fight it in court. Very Simple!

I know ur a cop so u have to give the PC answers...
But cmon. I've been here for a year, and last weekend I saw people pulled over on
-Atlantic near where it branches off to the conduit
-Atlantic near Rockaway
-The BQE
-Eastern Pkwy (also saw a very nasty accident)
-Sunrise Highway
-Belt Pkwy
All either in a 24 hour span or during the same trip!!! Again you're not at liberty to divulge what strategies cops use to pull people over but obviously for whatever reason there was a sharp increase in traffic stops. There were often 2-3 cars pulled over at a time; that's not normal. -

*2-3 cars pulled over at a time? That was probably a car accident not a traffic stop.
*Cops don't have to give the PC answers. The Executive Officer of a precinct has to explain summons activity and accidents to the Chief of Transportation. For the most part the cops don't give a damn what the Exec. wants/needs. He can't give out a raise just 'cause a cop wrote more summonses.
*FYI-Not positive about the rest of the city but the 77 is actually writing ALOT less summonses this year compared to last. I'm gonna guess that it's city-wide. -
i wish more people would get pulled over for those infamous brooklyn u-turns. how difficult is it to drive around the block?
as for ticketing people at the same spot, seems smart. people seem to break the same driving laws in the same way at the same locations all the time. or at least similar. -
Personally, I don't think a ticketing spree would be such a bad thing...

Well over the weekend, there were 5 traffic fatalities. Studies show that the # of summonses issued at a location, directly correlates with Motor vehicle accidents. Certain areas are designated Accident Prone Locations, in which officers are encouraged to focus their enforcement activities. Writting summonses is part of Policing, and a large percentage of Officers dislike issuing summonses. However, it's a neccessary evil, without Cops enforcing traffic laws, the streets would be utter mayhem.

I appreciate the banter. Know that my intention was to validate if I was the only one to have 3 officers pour out of a cruiser and shine their flashlights in my eyes to tell me that I ran a Stop sign.
I suppose that such an unexpected confrontation can make even the most steady-handed person question his or her own name not to mention have you wonder if you just stopped at an intersection.
Just smelled funny to me. -

what's the prob w/ u-turns? if no other car is coming from either direction - no pedestrians crossing in either direction - you're not stopping traffic behind you - what's the problem?

anyone who takes a u-ey w/ no regard to the above scenarios is a tool.
I love u-eys. (u-ies?) -
Recently I was annoyed by the police cars parking on one of the "islands" in GAP, right where my dog likes to use the bathroom
Then one day I found out why. They were sitting there catching people driving in the bike lane.
I'm not a regular biker, but I was glad to see some kind of deterrent to cars using the bike lane, which there are far too few of around here as is. -

that's what's up. As a bike-pedestrian and a foot-pedestrian, I'm all for the reckless, over-confident, not-as-good-as-they-think drivers getting pulled over on a regular basis. If you're falsely accused, that really sucks -- definitely break out of work and contest it in court.
On that note, boy do I wish the cops would start a massive litterer-busting spree. How wonderful would it be to see cops jumping from behind poles and around corners to handcuff punks throwing trash in the subway tracks, on the sidewalks and tossing empty cups onto the street. Scumbags! -
....and SPIT! That's why Ny's are always looking down....we're all trying to dodge spit mines!

Hey spit happens

I hopefully the the cops will include all the double parked cars. Esp. on alternate parking days. All it takes is one car not to move, you end up with 3 cars in a row and the street gets shut down

if this were only the reality --- so many bike accidents happen when people do "u-eys" and think no one is coming down the street. many times the cyclist in this case gets hit from behind. or think of all the people doing u-turns just don't care, so many!
Howdy, Stranger!
