    Subject: Cheap cocktails

    Apparently loads of people have heard of Brooklynian.com, old young, rich poor, newbies oldies, just look at the board and see how many people read and log on to this board. Apparently you have heard of it since you are posting. Maybe they will have to rethink of their prices, but for the amount of rent that they probably will pay, for the amount of investment that they have put into the place, for the staff costs and plus all of their other bills, i bet they will rethink and charge $ 5 dollars for premium cocktails, i bet they will charge 50 cents an oyster, i bet they will only buy the cheapest, gins, cheapest tequilas,chartreuse, vodka's, cheapest bitters, cheapest glasses, cheapest fruits and cheapest produce, so it i bet they will have to rethink their prices and charge nothing for their cocktails so that people like you will come to their bar...

    Nope, I am one of the owners of a bar in an adjacent neighborhood, but I used to go to Milk & Honey back in its early days.

    Just because many people post here does not mean that most residents of PH or CH know that this board exists.

    And stating that I must have heard of this board because I'm posting here is quite a perceptive comment...your intelligence is remarkable.

    The Presbyterian is my favorite at Little Branch (Milk and Honey's West Village counterpart). Going with the bartender's choice is always a good idea, too. I'll definitely patronize this new place if the drinks and vibe are similar to that of Little Branch (and I won't freak if the cocktails cost more than five bucks).

    Serious as in 'I can't believe I'm getting a cocktail of this quality in a setting like this in Prospect Heights'. The place is gorgeous (except I suppose for the light fixtures); covered completely in white tiles. Pleasantly sleepy, and quiet. They had Chet Baker on the stereo.

    I had a Presbyterian and a Manhattan, both of which I found very solid (in relation to other Milk & Honey offshoots), but probably not at the level of Pegu Club or M&H itself. (The friend I came with had an awesome Old Fashioned, however.) I'm not complaining though: the atmosphere is superbly upscale (and mightily romantic — it was all couples last night except for us), in a way I haven't experienced in Brooklyn bar.

    Thats *exactly what I thought.
    The space is gorgeous and it looked like the light fixtures were an afterthought or something.
    We went on Saturday night and the hostess (who Im assuming was Kathryn Weatherup) was lovely and welcoming.
    I will definitely be going back.

    really? I was there Sunday night with a guy friend and made the bartender (who is absolutely charming) run the gamut of ginger based drinks after consuming a Presbyterian which ruled. the Dark & Stormy and the Moscow Mules he made were good, better than most, really, but not up to M&H standards. however, the Presbyterian was fantastic, and I came back to it.

    and I've heard that recently the quality at M&H has dropped and that it is unbearably painful to get a reservation -- apparently you have to text someone day-of and then hover in the LES until they text you back and confirm it. and then they often don't have a table and either turn you away or park you at the bar. AND they apparently aren't so awesome at suggesting drinks anymore, which is really sad since the Jamaican Mai-Tai I had once at the bartender's suggestion was truly superb.

    I only say that with bitter resentment at the others having such an absurdly romantic experience. :/

    I haven't actually been to Milk & Honey, but it makes sense that customer service might be going downhill. The (Australian?) bartender at Weather Up is perfectly professional and set us up nicely. You probably were in there the same time we were.

    The usual websites are curiously not blowing this place up, I wonder why.

    I was there on a date that night... don't know about absurdly romantic. Is a lovely spot, though. I def recommend the Presbyterian. Drinks weren't as amazing as at Pegu Club or Milk and Honey, but 5 bucks cheaper than Pegu, a couple of bucks cheaper than M&H and right across the street makes it a pretty good look.

    well ... I was there with a guy friend (not sure what his wife would think about this thread), not a boyfriend/romantic partner. so there was no romance happening at my end of the bar. I suppose it is a romantic setting and I can see going on a date there. but really, I once went on a date to M&H and the quality of the booze didn't improve the not-awesome date.

    in any case, what I like about the joint is that it is QUIET. so calm. so yeah, it's good for a date. it's also good if you want to just have a conversation with a friend or two. which is awesome and something the nabe needed.

    Cocktails are 11 dollars.

    Presbyterian is rye, ginger beer and some sort of citrus, with a candied ginger garnish.

    1. Cocktails are $11ish; beer and wine are a bit cheaper. Saturday night was ridiculously crowded though, so I'm guessing (and actually hoping) that they raise their prices a little if those kind of crowds persist. Tricky, I know, because they wouldn't want to lose their weeknight business.
    2. Rye, ginger, soda, maybe lime (I'm not sure about the lime part).
