  • Greetings from rainy cool tampabay Florida. Pretty miserable out there today. Rainy, windy, cool. They are advising people to keep their boats in dock. I guess I will have to forget my yacht today. Ha, Ha, Ha. Maybe if I had a yacht I could sail it on the Gowanus Canal. Some of my crazy friends would jump in the canal on the way home from Red Hook pool. I wonder if they are still alive.

Hey, where are all our contributors to the blog? I know that a lot of them use Facebook which I avoid like the plague. I wish some of them would come on even just to say HI.
  • HI everyone! A little late but Happy New Year! Spent the holidays in Chicago spent 2 hours on the runway coming home to Fla. The good part was that Brandon was baptized on Dec 28 and I was there. Been cool the last couple of weeks-especially in the morning but can't complain when it's in the 50's-by noon its 72! Heard about the blizzard coming your way! Stay safe and warm! Talk to u soon-bye
  • Hello All!  New here and wanted to respond (below) to the following post from a while back which I just read:

      Josenette

Wow, what a flood of wonderful memories just rushed through my
brain. I grew up on 22nd St between 4th and 5th Aves. Went to PS 172,
IS 88 and graduated from John Jay HS in 1973. Has anyone watched Big
Daddy with Adam Sandler? St John’s School is used in that movie and so
is Luigi’s Pizza. Thanks for the memories.

Hi Josenette!  Just wanted say we were friends back in the day if you had curly (kinda coarse) black hair when you attended IS88!  Wondering if you may remember me...Cheryll Graves at the time!

  • Hi All, well I guess we did not get the enormous storm that was predicated, however it's still enough to make a big mess. Be safe everyone.

Hi Patsy, Warren, Anna and Prodigalson.

    Welcome Cheryll
  • Hi friends
Home from work today due to schools
    Being closed!
    Relaxing now & watching tv.
Cooking later & will watch some more TV
This is a treat for me.
Going to build a snowman with my grandson in a little while.
    His first real blizzard,
We had snow last year when he was coming home as a newborn, so this snow will be fun for him.
Anna, so happy to see you on here.
Glad you're well & family is doing well.
Hi Judy & Warren & Richard & welcome
    Cheryl.
    C u all soon.
    Stay warm & enjoy!!
  • Happy Friday!

I suspect that Belicheat & Shady Brady will contrive (oops,  I should say, find) a way to win the Super Bowl.  Hope everyone gets a chance to watch it - I've seen every game since the inception of the series.

Am planning on enjoying the game while pigging out on roast pork loin.  Mmm, mmm ~ I can smell that delightful dish right now (in my imagination, of course).

    Everyone have a fabulous weekend.
  • The cheaters will try anything to insure a victory. Funny how the Giants were able to beat them in the Super Bowl. Parcells taught Belicheck how to coach tough to win but never to cheat.

Was glad to see Serina Williams win the Australian Open. Too bad we have no men in the race for Tennis best. Since Roddick retired there really has ben a dearth of top men from the US in Tennis. I have little to no interest in Basketball or Hockey so I guess I will have to wait for Baseball after tomorrow.

Hopefully it will warm up soon. To you 40 degrees in the A.M. is not a big deal. Here we are freezing.
  • Good afternoon friends,
    "Happy Super Bowl Sunday"!
We are having all finger foods tonite.
Buffalo wings in different sauces, mozzarella sticks, pigs in blanket, vegetables platter & chips, pretzels etc
    & dessert.
    No big cooking today!
    Just heart & serve.
    I'm a happy camper.
I'll be rooting for the Seahawks.
Not a fan of the pats.
    Everyone enjoy you day!!
    :)
  • Good morning, friends
    Great super bowl game!
Exciting, but I am disappointed that the
    Pats. Won
    Hope everyone enjoys their day!!
    :)
  • Hello, Hey I figured out what happened at the Super Bowl. Belechick & Brady paid a Hypnotist to hypnotize Carroll and convince him to throw a pass on the one foot line!!!! Sounds stupid but as good as any other theory.

Carol is fighting a cold & I have a rather personal problem that we will not discuss. Other then that we are doing well! Called all our kids in NJ and they came through the snow storms just fine. First storm a big bust. This last storm gave them 10-12 inches. That is one of the major reasons I am in Florida. Despite the chilly weather we are having lately, we get NO SNOW!

  • Hi friends
    Warren I love the snow
We are expecting more on Sunday &
    Monday.
It's been pretty cold here in NY
    Hi to all
    Stay warm!
    Enjoy your night.
    :)
  • Hi All,

Patsy you are right it's been so cold out....and more snow predicted for Sunday.

Keep warm and have a great weekend everyone.
  • Good morning, friends
    Happy Sunday.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
    :)
  • Holy Cow, Sunday afternoon and NO FOOTBALL! Already been to Church, been to brunch. Guess I will finish up my income tax forms. Have already completed them once but I found and error during a check. So, I will check the figures again before I go to AARP to see if they come up with the same number for my refund and then they will electronically send It to the IRS. No charge for old goats. Sometimes it pays to be older.

Hey Patsy and all you Northerners.Do not bother coming to the Tampa Bay Area to get warm. We are freezing too. No snow but IT IS COLD! This morning I had to wear my Bill Parcells Giant Jacket (With the hood up) and my Giant gloves. Sure, it is colder where you are but after you are in Florida a few years, 30 or 40 degrees seem like Antarctica weather. I guess I would have to go closer to the equator to get warm!
  • Happy Valentine's Day

  • Happy St Valentine's Day

Temperatures are coldest here since 1920s.  But our hearts are warm!

      ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • Hi friends,
Hope you all had a nice Valentines Day
    With your loved ones.
    Mine was very nice.
    Chocolate, flowers & dinner etc.
Freezing here in The Big Apple.
But Richard, I love what you said about
    Our hearts being warm!
    So true..
    Hi Warren, Judy & all.
    Have a nice relaxing evening.

Brrrrrr! Brrrrrrr! Brrrrrrrr! High today in the 50's. Low tomorrow-High 30's. Sure does not sound like Florida. Water Temp at Clearwater Beach-60 degrees. This winter is for the birds (penguins only) all over. Glad I saved so many winter clothes. I am using every Jacket, Sweater, Long Pants that I brought with me. I got two extra warm Flannel shirts for Christmas & I am using them like crazy. It still beats shoveling snow out of the driveway as I did in NJ for years. Oh well. I am sure warmer days are ahead!
  • I don't know... I visited my aunt in Delray Beach over the weekend and sunbathed in what felt like hot sunshine. I was wearing street clothes but would have been comfortable without my shirt.
  • Booklaw, just so you get the picture, Miami is the largest southern most city in Florida (Excluding the keys) It was in the low 40's there this morning. Tampa was 46 degrees. Many areas around Tampa were in the 30 degree range and some below freezing. The water temp is 60 degrees. If you live in Florida those temps are completely unacceptable. I am glad you enjoyed Delray Beach over the weekend. Be thankful you are not there today. This has been one lousy winter everywhere. Louisville KY this AM -2degrees. The afternoon temps around here MAY reach 60. I am not comparing our temps here to the NE or Midwest. The big difference is we do not expect it here at all!
  • Happy Chinese New Year to all!

Still VERY cold here in St Paul but, as always, our hearts do remain warm.

    :)
  • Continued from yesterday. This AM in Tampa 34 degrees. St Petersburg 37 degrees. Polk County 27 degrees etc; etc:. The beat goes on. This is a crummy winter everywhere! Water temp at Clearwater Beach yesterday 56 degrees!!!!
Probably warmer water in Coney Island. Speaking of Coney, we used to like Brighton Beach. Did you have a favorite beach at Coney Island? I can remember walking out on Steeplechase Pier and checking out the catches fisherman were making. Once in a while, one would catch a blowfish. It would blow up like a balloon on the dock and sometimes someone would stick a pin in it and it would deflate and go "POOF".
  • I like Reese Park in the Rockaways.  It is less crowded.

    Also Manhattan Beach.
  • Hey all - Happy Friday to ya.

Speaking of fishing, I tried to catch some cat fish in the Prospect Park ponds but never managed to do so.  Did catch small fish by hand and tried to keep them as pets but they quickly died off, sad to say.  This was way back in the early 1960s.

One good bit of news = Jefferson wins the Brooklyn scholastic basketball championship - way to go Orange!

    Have a GREAT weekend!
  • Hey you guys, I was talking about Coney Island in the 40's & early 50'. Also, I heard that Reis Park became a "Bathing Suits Optional" Beach?????
  • I always heard that there was a special area reserved for that, but I never knew where it was.  Most of the beach is normal, "bathing suit required."
