Greetings,

On some Saturday or Sunday this summer, I want to get on boat that:
1. Takes me out into the Atlantic.
2. Gives me bait and a rod.
3. Brings me back to shore, hopefully with a few slimey fish.

This service seems to be available right here in Brooklyn.

http://www.nycfishing.com/links.html

We might not even need a car to get there. ...we could bring our smelly intact fish on the subway or bus. If'd you like to join me, let me know.

...otherwise this thread will just be crickets, and I will feel complete rejection. ...and -as long time readers know- I am very fragile.

P.S. Mods please sticky, so I can avoid feelings of total rejection

I can fish but I don't have equipment and I'd probably need you help knotting the hook. If I have enough money I might be able to go.

    (sticked for you)

the boats likely rent the equipment to newbies (like us).

If I remember correctly the equipment is included with the fee - but it's been awhile so I could be wrong. Bait is definitely included and there are staff on the boat to help knotting hooks, etc. . .

Depending on the date you pick, if I'm free I'll go.

I know how to gut a fish within a minute... beware boys!

(kidding... it might take me 2 minutes... I'm rusty)

So noted: Mama is in charge of gutting all of the fish we catch.

If you go to one of the boats that runs out of Sheepshead Bay, there's a tackleshop right after where all the boats dock (by the Dunkin Donuts) that, at least as of two years ago, rented out equipment.

I did a charter from City Island with friends some years ago and it was a blast. If you've never been to City Island it's worth the trek, if only to experience it once. We brought a cooler and a case of beer. They supplied the gear. Needless to say, I didn't get catch a damn thing.

    City Island could work.

I've done no research on the BYOB options. ...I've done no research at all. ...at this point I'm figuring out if there are others interested.

    Ana is decidedly out.

...I'm thinking a few of us would meet at a "already scheduled boat"; I can't imagine that we would have enough people to actually charter a boat. (and that is so not going on my credit card)

where do City Island boats go? Fishing on Long Island Sound? Isn't fishing on the ocean better? and the fish safer to eat?

I'd say just go from the Sheepshead Bay. I believe they have boats that leave from there and it'so much easier to get to than City Island.

the boats that leave from Sheepshead Bay all include equipment with the fee to get on, hubby goes all the time. They will also clean any fish you might catch.

Agreed City Island is a pain to get to, you'd definitely need a car or else be relegated to the whole train to bus thing. I've only done it once in NYC so I'm about as far from an expert as you can get....

    Fishing in Sheepshead Bay

The boats are large so remember, us bozos will be amongst other bozos.
  • whynot_31

yes, this will be a Sheepshead Bay Adventure. ...not City Island.

We are going to the Ocean, not LI Sound.

....we need more people. Surely there must be more of us who want to vomit in the Atlantic.

Gilligan = (tall skinny guy with new apartment)

Ginger = (unnamed woman who just got small dog who can now sit).

Professor = Either Booklaw or Carnivore, I can't decide.

    Mary Ann = ???

    Skipper = hopefully a professional

So, assuming that anyone is serious about this.

What do folks think of Sat or Sun July 17/18th?

...my prediction is that the adventure would run about $80 once the boat ticket, bait, and rod rental is included.

but I have done no research yet. Could people handle the above dates and $80?

I don't eat fish. I don't touch fish. However, I do drink like a fish and if someone promises me Dramamine, I'll go.

I go out of Sheepshead Bay all the time. You can BYOB they also have equipment you can use and they clean your fish for a small fee of course. If you haven't been, I suggest Dramamine. You can also join the pool and whoever catches the biggest fish wins the loot.

I went deep sea fishing once. That's how I know I need the Dramamine. Puke City.
