See, if you got a small yacht, there could be drinking and fishing, and good ol' revelry! But have fun in any case, you'll be on a boat! I'll be in Laker Land.

    slacker, read the thread.

    The boat leaves at 1PM.

Fish from the ocean are raw

No, s/he said "when does it DISembark in the evening?" Meaning, when does it end?

    fair enough

Whynot, you slacker, slow down and read the post.

Withachaser, the boat should be back around 5. I don't think they care beer vs wine.

Fillet-o-fish is the most likely menu item

hey whynot, lighten up! you'll scare the fishies away :-). besides, fishin' sposed to be relaxin', no?

i did want to know if the boat would return during daylight hours (thanks, carnivore) and, what we'd be lucky to catch, so i could justify the expense and trip by biking there and maybe catching a few dinners while having a blast with my neighbors. i checked the boat website and it appears porgies are the fish dujour. not that i'd catch anything (this brooklyn grrl has a hard enough time catching the ms. paul's in the back of the freezer), but this is not a fish i favor.

this does sound. potentially, like a lot of fun. i hope someone posts photos!

Its true, I've been watching Deadliest Catch too much.

...pictures will definately be posted. Surely someone will let me hold their fish while Carnie takes a picture of me with it.

Maybe the boat has fake fish for photo purposes.

    Subject: mutiny

I know this trip is planned and overplanned and processed over like hell, but I read "night fishing" and got very excited. Is anyone interested in going at night instead?

I'd make cupcakes for everyone. I'd throw a barbecue in my backyard with whatever we caught (or bought at the supermarket and put hooks in).

Bluefish's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more delicious than porgy and a boat at night? Nothing more serene. Or dramatic, depending on the weather.

sorry, Rainbow.. you can plan the next one.

    fishing people:

Do not be distracted by Rainbow and Meredith. ...you want to go fishing at 1PM on 7/18!

P.S. I emailed the boat people this question today:

    To: [email hidden]
About 10 friends and I would like to be on the 1 PM trip on july 18th.

Have the trips been filling up? ...Do we need to purchase tickets in advance, or can we just show up and buy them at the boat?

Oh. So deciding that morning whether to go and just showing up is discouraged?

I think that's what he was asking the boat people.

Whynot, did you get an answer yet?
  • whynot_31

nope. ...they seem to be out on the boat.

I would like for us to be able to decide that morning whether we wish to go.

Ok, I was thinking more from a whynot trying to organize the trip, trying to get a head count point of view rather than whether we could actually get on the boat. Sorry I didn't make that clear.
(Basically, are we not welcome if we don't RSVP?)
  • whynot_31
    whynot_31
you are completely welcome by me, regardless of whether you rsvp.

...I am seeing if the boat cares whether between 5 and 15 people show up without warning. Bring friends, good looking people you meet on the way, etc.

My "organized trip" consists of a bunch of people meeting at a bus stop, then getting off at Sheepshead bay and buying tickets.

...after that, its all up to the fearless crew. For those who like advice...

Participants should bring the following things:
    Beer for yourself.
    Beer for whynot.
About $55 for ticket, rod and bait rental, and to gut any fish we may catch.
    Lunch.
    Metrocard.
    Jacket.

Someone should also bring a camera so they can take photos of brooklynians posing with the fish caught by experienced fishermen.

...I hope that there is no need to buy the tickets in advance. They took a few days to respond to my last email, so I'm not worried.

    Breaking news update:

In order to do my part toward the upcoming
Brooklynian Triathalon of Bike Riding, Fishing and Picnicing
I actually called one of the staff members (mates? sailors?) of the Sea Queen.
    Here is the play-by-play:

Whynot asked: If 10 people came to the 7/18 1PM boat, would we would need to buy tickets in advance.

Boatguy responded: There is probably no need to buy tickets in advance. However, you should call me on Friday, so I can hold seats for you if necessary.

So, I declare this trip fully way-over-planned and way-over-discussed.

It is now time for you characters to give an non-binding RSVP.
If you end up cancelling at the last minute, don't worry:
I, frankly, will not care. I was not foolish enough to give the boat my credit card info.

If you decide to come at the last minute, and didn't bother to RSVP:
That's ok as well. The more that attend the greater chance one of us might actually catch a fish.

...c'mon, you wanna go a fishin' and a vomitin'!
Look! I've even created this ultra-simple how-to-guide while I should have been working:

Destination for those driving or taking a cab:
    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2250+emmons+ave&sll=40.583567,-73.944919&sspn=0.012108,0.019226&ie=UTF8&s=AARTsJrsoWOoRN4UR7_PGEa7QFc1QFRAUg&view=map

Transportation plan for those who want to ride a bus with their fellow bloggers and aspiring fisherpeople:
    A. Go to the B49 stop at Bedford and Eastern Parkway (coincidently close to my apartment...) at 11:30 AM.

    B. Say Hi to the group of fabulously goodlooking people that have assembled to ride the B49 until the end of the line...

    http://www.hopstop.com?action=route&route_id=0121c29b82bf9f99

Of course, should you live nowhere near Eastern Parkway, you can also figure out your own way there and surprise us: http://mta.info/nyct/maps/busbkln.pdf

Regardless, boat leaves at 1 PM! ...and it is good for you to leave your neighborhood! Newbies and lurkers are welcome!

I wonder how many people can make all 3 events. I definitely need a break from all of you :ncool: so I'm choosing the non-eating event for that break.

Will all 10 people on the boat actually make it off the boat via their own legs? And if so, can they still eat the next day?

    So many questions.

    I fully anticipate going.
Of course, I fully anticipate doing a lot of things Saturdays but extra time sleeping always seems to win out.
So if I'm not there by 1:00 go on without me.
    (But I plan on going)
